Alex I'm think your wrong here. I spoked to my friend ho works at a B&O shop here in Stockholm. And he had received a intern mail that the BV 7-40 are going to be Full BS3 equipped!=) Not semi equipped but full like the US version.

The BeoVision 7 isn't BS3 based yet, but it will be soon, as you say...

Considering it's upscaling an analogue signal (when watching DVD), the BeoSystem 3 does a better job than anything I've ever seen. However, bear in mind that when your DVD player upscales it, it has all the digital information the DVD can spit out, and hence with some clever software can 'fill in the gaps' in a better way than the BS3 can when using an analogue connection.

do you have the latest software version installed in your Beosystem 3? From what I have read here, correct 1080p output is supported only with the most recent software upgrades.

From my expirience this very much depends on the display and the scaler and deinterlacer of both devices. Sometimes you get a better picture if you feed 1080p to a HD-ready display (1280x720 or so) and the display has to do some "donwsizing", sometimes 575p (PAL) is just better.

With my BS3 conneted to a Full HD Projector on a 2,44m screen a difference is quickly noticable.

At this point in time I have to say that the scaler of the Bs3 is quite good, but not perfect. The picture prozessor of my HD-DVD Xe1 from Toshiba with the Reon chip does a better job in upscaling a PAL DVD to 1080p than the BS3 if I feed the signal direct to the projector without the BS3. The best DVD proceccing I have seen sofar was with a Denon 3930 upscaling to 1080p, slightly better than the Xe1 in a direct comparison. Experts have told me that this is the best DVD you can get for money today from a video point of view.

However, very little details you will not see in your day to day viewing expirience! If you are a big fan of test images you should care, if you want to enjoy movies just relax and have fun.....

Upscaling is fine, but only if it happens once!!!

Panels that don't have a resoulution of 1280x720 or 1920x1080, upscaling doesn't make any sense. The intern scaler of these panels has to scale again to the native resolution of the panel. A BV7 has a native resolution of 1366x768.

Only panels with a native resolution of 1980x1080, will have profit, with upscaling sources, like a BV9 / BV4.

Most beamers have a resolution of 1280x720 (720p), so upscaling does make sense there too.

I have seen a number of combinations at our store, and now have the US 7-40. The best picture we get to date is an over-the-airwaves HDTV 720p signal on BV9 and now the BV7-40. Over the air is FAR better than our local cable HD signal. Very slightly less (or the same) is Blu Ray off Playstation 3 into the BV4-50. Oddly enough, a well mastered normal DVD from BeoCenter 2 or BV7 looks nearly as crisp, but it varies widely with the quality of the source. (We demo a remastered Alfred Hitchcock's "North By Northwest", an absolutely amazing picture in many ways). That might be true for Blu Ray or HD-DVD as well, but we don't even mess with them unless a client is specifically interested. Have yet to see a 65" in 1080p, but imagine only the pure size of it would necessitate the higher pixel count.

PS, the built-in HD tuner on BV7 is the best. Where I live, you can pick up 12 channels with a $50 antenna. Ray.

Yes, it does a fantastic job of upscaling. From a distance of 4-5m on a 65" display, I struggle to tell the difference between standard definition and high definition other than a slight increase in depth.

We recently saw a demo of Star Wars III on a BV4-65: we were not able to tell if it was HD or not !

So, what you're saying is that if i use BS3 with a BV7-40 720p the image quality will be increased in a way that it's almost a 1080p ?

Roughly yes - you can't invent detail that isn't there in the source information although clever DSP can interpolate pixels and highlight edges etc much like enhancing photographs in Photoshop etc.
