I also experienced that setting our speakers at the correct position makes a big difference. I have a similar setup (Avant, front BL1, BL2, rear BL4000).

I used the dolby digital site for setup instructions, this works quite nice. One of the nice links:

Funny you mention the stands, because at my old place I had the rears behind the couch on a little shelf, which I thought would look stupid with the 4000s. My plan was to buy the stands for the BL3s to put beside my couch, but I actually think that I will think about the 4000 on stands combo in stead, as I also adore the 4000 stands. The problem now is that where I had run masterlink from the livingroom to the bedroom, (where my "office" is), at my old place, I didn't bother at my new place, as I never used it, although I have a beolink active box and only need the speakers. So if I do use the BL3s with my laptop, I won't have the ML qualities unless I run the cable on the wall, which I don't like.

EDIT: Does the BL4000 stands have the cables inside the stand as they do with the BL3's??

The BL3 design is quirky isn't it! People seem to really really fall in love with this speaker, which is awesome.

If i were you i would definitely put the BL3 to use where it can be enjoyed further e.g. with your computer, or another system. Having BL4000's at the back will look VERY classy, especially if you get the uuber gorgeous stands.

Actually I had all the cables, but couldn't remember where I'd put the Y adaptor and the female to female powerlink adaptor, so I was emptying every box to find it :o)

I'm surprised to read that you have ALT (BL3's) mixed with a BL1's. Don't you notice the change in sound at the higher freqencies when there is sound being piped through to the BL3's. Albeit, i'm assuming your setup is gorgeous, nothing beats the BL1's in the aesthetics department. Please do post photos of your new setup!!

Well I've thought alot which rear speakers to get back when I bought them, and was actually planning on the BL4000 as these would fit my setup in the aluminium colour, but I just fell in love with the shape and looks of the BL3s. I've thought about putting the BL3s next to my laptop, and getting a pair of second hand 4000s as rears, as it isn't really fair for the BL3s to just be rears when they got that much power, but as it was setup before it just wouldn't look right, (in my eyes anyway).

More and more often I use speaker4 mode and turn down the BL1's to just enjoy the BL3's.

I've also thought about changing the BL1's, but I just think that these speakers have some kind of majestic look, it's a bit hard for me to explain in english, but as if they are bigger than everything else, and although I really liked the BL9s when I heard them I don't have money to buy new speakers as I began studying again 2 years ago.

I will post some pictures when I'm all set, I don't think I ever got around to doing so from my old apartment.

Don't use Windex on the screen (do you guys even have that product in europe?) It's glass / window cleaner - and i sparayed our BV3 (with anti-reflex screen) the moment it was placed on the TV unit without thinking. A bit of a mistake, but luckily iy doesn't affect the viewing. The spots are only noticable up close when it's turned off.

Getting the AV setup is always the most important part of moving. This is even the case if it invovles emptying all the boxes onto the floor, making a terrificly huge mess, to find the power adapter, as was y experience the last twice I've shifted my stuff

Thanks for sharing that Toubro - glad you got sorted in the end!

I find for screens and speakers that a good quality diluted auto screen wash and a microfiber cloth does a perfect job. I don't care what anyone says, i've cleaned more Avant screens and speakers than i care to mention and it's never had the slightest effect apart from getting them crystal clean !!

I've just moved, and my lovely B&O has finally been connected, although it is very dirty from the hands carrying it

I don't know if it's all in my head, but I've positioned the BL1's approx. 55cm from the Avant, (and the wall on the left side), where they only had approx. 30cm before, and I think they soound better than ever. It certainly looks much better when they aren't that close together.

Then there's the rear BL3's. These have always been fed by a single cord and then a Y-adapter, (as they can't be daisychained, something the dealer didn't tell me when I bought them ).
When I connected them to the Avant they had a very loud unfriendly noise, so I thought this was the cable I'd run inside the wall, so I connected them directly to the Avant still using the Y-splitter, and they still made the horrible noise. I then found out it was the Y piece, and I just don't understand this, as it worked fine before I put it all in boxes
They are now connected directly to the Avant until I buy a new splitter, and they just play better than ever, and I was really pleased with them before. It's incredible.

Well that was a long story, but I just felt like sharing

On a last note, can anyone tell me what will be best to remove greasy hands from my BL1's and Avant screen?? I remember something about the screen being pretty fragile, (it's the RF32DVD), and my manual is in a movingbox somewhere
