I agree remote buddy is great, but its MAC only I think

Been doing the same with an iPod for some time with remote buddy on my Mac. Works through the link system and iTunes. Shows album art, the lot. Brilliant system!

Guys I have now in my mind the perfect solution

This software runs on a ipod touch (or iphone) www.alloysoft.com and allows remote control over a wirless network of Winamp, Windows Media Player or Itunes

I then used this bit of kit

to stream the mp3 stored on my my pc to the BS9000 in my living room over the house electrical wiring. Once I have selected the correct source (a.mem) with the Beo4 remote I can then control volume and select tracks, artists, albums, playlist etc etc all from the ipod. As I have the BS9000 linked to remote speakers in several rooms via Beolink Wireless I can also have the mp3s play wherever I want.

I think there is one more option. Ridax has a solution to control the ipod via Beo4. I think if you don't want a Mac or PC in the living room, get an ipod. Sync your music. Select your album directly on the ipod, plug ipod into ridax dock and then just use the Beo4 for basic ipod control, like pause, skip etc.

I have used an ipod for a long time, but wanted video as well so i switched to an Imac and Frontrow.

I think that the best intermediate situation, if you have a Beoport and a BS9000 (like me), is to have it all connected via beoport (ML) as well as an AEX (through the AUX). Have something like a Powerbook or a MAc Mini (or a PC) in the same room (living room), so you have rough control with the Beo4, but also have FULL control via the computer screen right there in the same room. It does mean that you'll need to change the source from N.Music to A.Aux, but that is a small price to pay for FULL control.

If you have all the computers linked (wired or wireless), you can designate the computer in the living room as the "GENERAL MUSIC LIBRARY" so that everyone in the household can dump music files onto that computer that they want to eventually use.

Begin with a small stock library, and then keep adding to it. Obviously you can prepare well in hand by setting up an applescript / automator action to add downloaded itunes songs to that GENERAL MUSIC LIBRARY, automatically.

Hi folks

I have Beoport, and my computer is well away from my main listening room. What I have done is install gotomypc program on a small laptop, then connect it to my main computer. Basically it's a bit like remote assistance or pcAnywhere.

Anyway, I'm now in my lounge with small laptop which shows me exactly what is on my main computer screen and tells me what tracks are coming up, and I can change to different cds or playlists while still listening.

I'm contemplating getting the Beoport linked to my BS9000, but I'm a little uneasy about how controlable the selection of tracks, albums etc actualy is when the BS900 has no way (as fars as I can tell) of showing what track etc has been selected.

I have a BS9000 linked to Beoport, which is plugged to a PC using Beoplayer.

I think that all depends of number of albums / tracks you have stocked in the computer, and what kind of listener you are: nervous, changing tracks all the time, or quiet, listening complete albums without intervention:
for a hard disk with 2 albums and 5 songs each, the control via beo4 even blind is very easy...for 2.500 albums and almost 40.000 tracks (as I have) the ONLY control possible with beoport+beoplayer is via the PC screen and using the mouse: the beo4 is useless.
For intermediate situations you could find also intermediate solutions, like PDA controlling, laptop remote desktop, TV monitoring with wireless keyboard...and so on.

I feel like I'm going to be spending alot of time at the PC selecting songs and creating playlist

When I want listen to long play N.Music unmonitored sessions, I only do a 2 minutes selection by dropping into "playlist", which can play during all day long... and more.

But YEEEES, I would really love a new generation Beo5 "two ways", where I could do the real time selection remotely

I think they didn't include it because in the end it doesn't help much. You need to be able to quickly through a list of many albums. Th eIpo user interface has perfected that, Apple Front Row is very much sppot on as well when it comes to usability. There is no way you do that through a Beo4 remote with the BS9000 display. For the BC2, I think they could have produced ipod like / very efficient navigation since it has the larger display but even there it woouldn't be perfect.

I think way to go Beomedia or any other PC or Mac if you can managed to add the remote functionalty like I did to my Imac. I have mine keyboard less in the living room and use it lie a "huge Ipod", streaming videos, music etc.

From what I understood, BM-Link on a mac can display song names, artist names, etc, which makes it more usable than Beoplayer on a PC...

I too am looking at using BeoPort with my BS9000 and I have a PC with all of my mp3s on. I'm wary of using BeoPort without the ability to display track info on the BS9000 display.

The documentation for BM-Link states that there's a simple menu selection to indicate what type of display your audio system has; for the BS 9000, it's an 8 character display (from memory!).

This is clearly a fairly minor software feature on the Mac version. Why on earth haven't B&O incorporated this into the PC software? Is this just another slightly disappointing B&O user interface oversight?

I still think that for MP3s Beomedia is the best choice, if you have a B&O TV and linkrooms.

Otherwise, having these external infrared receiver attached to PC or Mac is pretty much as good as it gets.

I am quite happy with my Imac and Frontrow, that I can fully operate through Beo4 except "On", for that I have to push a powerswitch.

I've connected a BeoPort to my BS9000. No chance to get track info etc. at the BS9000 display. Well, if you switch between the different folder types with Beo4, a harsh female voice says "ALBUMS!" or "ARTIST!" or "GENRE!". If you are looking for a special artist or song or album it's nearly impossible to find it...

So here's my very funny idea: You could record small voice-info-snippets with your PC.
For example: Say "Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way" and store it in as song "0" in the correct album folder. Do this for every album and artist, and record some "A", "B", "C" to "Z". If you now browse in a blind flight thru your folders, you simply need to wait a second and Beoplayer plays the first song (which is your small "info song").

Ok, this is for people who do not know, what to do in their free time. But: Hey! Using B&O doesn't mean, that life's simple...

The BM-Link software from Anders Odlund makes it possible to visualize (some) track information.

When I press over and over again on my GO -BEO4 button the text will scroll on the BS3200 display.

Please search for BM-Link 1.5 in the Mac forum.
