Do let me know what you think at the end. I think I am stuck with the 7.1 due to its horizontal placement. Personally I like the look of 7.1 better.

Hi, I have both at home in the moment to find out which is the better one for my setup (lab 5 plus lab3 in the back).
I always thought that the 7.4 must be the much better match with the lab5 than the 7.1 I did a quick check on Sunday, but suprise surprise, the difference is not that big!
I will run a much more detailed test tonight as I have to return the 7.1 to the dealer on Tuesday. My wife voted for the 7.1 as she does not like the design of the 7.4 at all....but performance will rule :-)

I to found it a very close run thing and i the end decided on 7.1 as the sound was more rounded. there are often occasions where not just speech comes from the centre and then the 7.1 seems better

As Beoaus says, the 7.1 is designed to be used as a stereo speaker by itself as well. The 7.4 is designed to be used ONLY as a centre channel, and is hence, much much better at that job.

Congratulations on a great purchase.

The BL7.1/2 is a power full stereo speaker best suited to a BV7 without external speakers. If you add external speakers, in video mode the centre channel will loose its clarity and power. As you will add the BL9's then I would go for the BL7.4 which will create a powerful clear centre channel for Video, DVD's, TV watching etc.

Hello all,

I should get my BV7 32 delivered end of this month (sadly not full HD ). But what is the difference between 7.1 and 7.4 anyway and what are the pros and cons?

I am going to complement the BV7 with BL9.
