It's worth checking if F3 (1.6a fuse)on the fuse board to the rear of the cd mech has blown.I've had this go for no apparent reason.It supplies the voltage for the main muting circuit.Otherwise,double check all interconnecting cable looms are in place.

If still no joy,you will need to do some signal tracing.Do you have a manual?

Thanks Nick. I'll check the fuse. I have a scanned service manual in a poor quality, but I have no experience in signal tracing.

Silly question praps,but have you got the cables mixed up?Beogram cd cables are marked "phono".Could you be using the tape cable?

Have you tried connecting the cd50 via the rca connectors rather than din,just to check that sound is def not coming out of the player?

The disc won't start when you load it manually,only when you press play with the drawer open.

No, I'm sure I use the right cable and yes, I have tried connecting the cd50 via the rca connectors rather than din. But thanks anyway for your suggestions. Sometimes these mistakes happen.............

The fault was no sound, although the disc was clearly being played as it turned normally and the time counter was reading correctly. The muting transistors were turned on all the time however, the cause was C351 in the muting circuit, it had dried up and gone open circuit. [Beogram CD 50]

I have replaced the C351 which is a 10 uF 16v capacitor with a 10 uF 50v capacitor. From what I know such a switch should be ok. Unfortunately with no result....... Still no sound.

Yes, the display on the front indicates that the disc is playing normally. It is connected to a Beomaster 5500.

When everything was working correctly, I think that the cd player started playing automatically when the tray was pushed in. This is not so now. Now I have to push the play button before the player starts. But maybe I'm wrong.

I have tested all the wires with a tester, and none of them seem to be broken.

Hasn't anybody got an idea what might be wrong. Is the laser ok if it finds all the tracks? Can I have broken a wire while fiddleing with the laser unit?

After having spent several hours repairing my beloved CD 50 for the usual tray problems everything works fine except for one thing. It doesn't say a sound..............The tray opens and closes smoothly, the laser goes back and forth in order to find the right tracks, but unfortunately no sound.

I have checked all the wires, but I can't figure out what's wrong...................
