I may be mistaken, but I always thought that B&O used RF and not infrared which, if the case, then Harmony remotes are useless with B&O, so I'm totally confused.

The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. IR and RF falls into this. B&O uses IR but at a higher frequency than standard consumer IR and that is where people get mixd up. Standard IR is 38kHz, B&O uses 455kHz, the RF in the UK is usually 433MHz, totally different frequencies.

So to clarify - B&O is defiitely IR but not all learning/prgrammable remotes can send the B&O codes.

Take a look here for an excellent site dealing with Harmony remotes. They will be able to help re Harmony but won't know much about B&O.

This question seems to recur every few months. I won't go into a long-winded post, try searching the site.

You will find that Logitech Harmony remotes work just fine with BL1000 and ^ coded Beo.

Regardless of what the Logitech support site may say, they will also work with earlier (pre BL1000) controlled Beo with some massaging.

In short, my experience is that any IR controlled Beo will work with Harmony.

Your ultimate satisfaction will be determined by how much time/effort you put into the configuration -a process which is lightyears ahead of configuring the Beo5/6.

It's IR, just as any regular remote. The carrier frequency however is mostly unique to B&O, which prevents many universal / learning remotes from being used, if they are not prepared for it.

I am able to control my BeoSystem 5000 with a Harmony 890.

I used a Harmony One to control some B&O.

If the product is on their list on the web it will work.

Has anybody out there used, or is using, a Harmony remote to control their B&O equipment?

All of my B&O kit, including the TV, are shown in their compatability list, however Harmony customer support have informed me that their remotes do not emit RF, only infrared and therefore cannot control RF devices.

Here is part of their response:-

".....unfortunately Harmony remotes cannot control RF devices, all of Harmony remotes only sends IR signal to control the devices. Harmony 900 remote has an RF extenders which has the ability to control the devices that has no line of sight/ inside the cabinets, however this device still sends an IR signal."
