No Beosound5 and it works well. Use tv as display so my guess is that it should work with Beo6 2-way without BS5. Just a guess though

Re: BeoMaster 5 with Beo6, without BeoSound 5

Razlaw:

The Beomaster 5 page on the B and O site speaks of using the Beo 6 to select music but makes no mention of the Beo 4. Perhaps that indicates it will work?

Should be simple to test. Unplug a Beosound 5 from a Beomaster. I would try it but my Beo 6 wont be arriving until later this month.

Razlaw,

Since I am in no hurry, it would be great to have this tested.

However, considering the setup, it would mean that this would need to tested by setting up BM5 with Beo6 without having the BeoSound 5 connected at all at first. If there's a need for a BS5 during setup, although it could be disconnected later for Beo6 to work without it, this would mean that the combo is more or less BS5 dependant. I cannot image dealers lending out a BS5 just for allowing the customer to set up a system without it.

In any case, since BM5 can be set up with a BeoVision on its own, I also cannot imagine what setup functionalities the BS5 interface would provide that a display on a TV screen would not. I've looked at the BM5 installation manual, and the Beo6 manual, and there's nothing that says that you need a BS5 to get things working. However, both manuals are either outdated or "superficial", so only hands on experience will tell.

I don't like the design of BS 5 and with a two-way Beo 6 it makes no sense anymore.

This solution would mean:

- Beomaster 5 = Apple TV

- Beo 6 = IPhone/IPod

The advantage would be more space for (lossless) music files on harddisk of BM 5 than on IPhone/IPhone.

Hope it will work!

/Räuber

Yes, excatly.

I have an Apple TV 2, iPhone and Beo5 at the moment, but I would like to have a holistic "B&O only" approach... which would mean using BV10/BM5 to distribute music to the bedroom, where Beo6 would be the "visual key" to what I'm listening. In my setup, BeoSound 5 in the living room would be a double (or triple) interface to music (TV with BM5 + Beo6 + BS5).

Let's see. If the BM5 + Beo6 approach works, I will be getting a BM5, Beo6 and new link speakers to the bedroom. Otherwise, I'll stick to what I have now, but it lessens the "hands on" audio user interface and music listening experience in the bedroom.

BS5 is (a fancy) interface, and Beo6 would be a handy interface. I hope they work together or separately.

BeoMaster 5 is sold on its own as a companion to BeoVisions, so it would be wery odd in my opinion if B&O would limit its functionality with Beo6 without the BS5. It would kinda go against the two-way approach B&O is revitalizing. Maybe someone will "jailbreak" the BM5 in this case to allow the functionality :)

Re: BeoMaster 5 with Beo6, without BeoSound 5

I think they artificially block this feature if you do not get the BS5. This has to be verified of course. Bit is silly from B&O, as the BS5 does not make sense, but BM5 + 2 way Beo6 would make a lot of sense of course.

The recent update to the BeoMaster 5 and Beo6 got me thinking:

Would it be possible to use the BeoMaster 5, connected to a BeoVision 10, and also use the 2-way function of Beo6 to see album covers and control music (in a main and a link room), without adding BeoSound 5 to the combo?

I'm initially more interested in the user experience of having a two-way remote, than adding the BeoSound 5 user interface to the setup. I like the idea of "having the music" at hand and controlling it with the visual feedback Beo6 could provide, wherever I am around the house.

So with BeoMaster 5, is Beo6 a viable stand-alone terminal (with TV connected to the BM for configuring the setup and for more complex operations) without BeoSound 5?
