LCD/LED TVs always look better than Plasma TVs in a brightly lit environment,so comparison in a shop environment will always favour the former.

However the problem with the mainstream TVs,whether LCD/LED or Plasma,is that manufacturers are building down to a price,so that even Panasonic's top VT30 Plasma,or Sony's 923 LED, range have suffered problems.

A major problem with edge lit LED TVs is non uniformity of back lighting leading to clouding.

Has B & O avoided this problem?

One of the factors I feel B & O should address, given the price of their TVs,is the absence of an user ISF calibration facility.

Is this contained in a Service Menu?

whenever people go to stores and see plasmas along side led tvs the first impression is that the plasma looks dim and dull. With led tvs they are set with over saturated colours working with the shop lighting attracting buyers, buy one and get it home and you will see how bad the picture looks as it will be set to dynamic buy default.

Obviously you will play around with the settings to find one suitable for easy relaxed watching but then you have to factor some of the negatives with that tech. You got clouding, flashlighting off axis viewing where the picture washes out and degrades if your viewing the tv from different positions. Positives are brightness colour and sharpness, plasmas tend to look a little softer in that regard.

With plasma you get angle free viewing superior black levels and very good motion handling, IR is not even really a problem these days as the anti burn in features these tvs implement are alot better than before so plasma still has it's place.

I think some of the negatives of plasma are higher energy consumption and lack of brightness compared to led and lcd tvs. But at the end of the day both have pros and cons.

Re: beovision 9 vs beovision 10-46

Paul Winn:

I totally agree with Chris! I don't get plasma - it's super old technology. I still don't get Plasma delivering darker blacks as everytime i watch one next to say a 10 and compare black images, the Plasma always looks like a very old pair of very washed black jeans!

Its a shame that these beautiful sets are not upgradable with the new Plasma plus panels, as the reflections and greyness seem completely removed(recycling)

Re: beovision 9 vs beovision 10-46

BV9!!!

Re: beovision 9 vs beovision 10-46

9

Re: beovision 9 vs beovision 10-46

Admittedly it was 4 years ago when I auditioned a BV9,but the major thing that concerned me was the reflectivity of the screen.I had to ask the dealer to turn off all their lights near the TV as it was so bad.

I seem to recall the 9 had one serious problem

And it only has a mono centre speaker and, frankly, is incredibly large/heavy.

I wanted a BV9, but a few of these surface-level reasons made it impractical. The BV9 is already large, I'd have to use speakers too, and I simply do not have the space.

BV10-46 is more practical. Picture is excellent and I like the ability to swap out the frets. I don't really like the BV9 silly ALT either.

Re: beovision 9 vs beovision 10-46

I would take BV9 any time, except for the earlier HDReady version. The new 7-55 mkII is the first LCD from B&O that is close to plasma when it comes to overall picture quality (movements, artifacts etc).

The only downsides are the weight of the set (125 kg, so moving it is a hassle), the power consumption ( 0.5 kW/hr) / heat generated and the fact that it comes with a center-channel-only-speaker (you will have to add at least two front speakers, of course adding to the cost of the set).
