I know of two:

a friend's mother, a successful doctor, who is the buyer of the household

Judith, a lover of design, who sometimes posts here

I know the two women in the Collins Street store love B&O and buy it for their homes, but that is a bit of an exceptional case (they do get special deals I believe)

And of course I know of wives (including my own) who smile tolerantly but who do think most of the prices are obscene; interestingly my wife has no issue with the price of the speakers (except BL5s) since the value is clear to her; music systems she is dubious about, and BVs she is horrified at - we were at the local electronics store on the weekend and we saw a 32" and she made the point it is a 1/10th of what we paid for the BV8 32" ... but of course it was like comparing a box of oranges with a box with one orange inside it but she places no value on the connectivity of the BV8

Re: Bang & Olufsen woos women with 'female interaction' study

Chris:

i have never met a woman who has ever heard of B&O.

In the 70s, our family were mad-keen on B&O. We kept our B&O TV for years. The family moved to Sony CRTs in the early 90s though, I'll admit.

Problem is, my ,other (as an example) would love to get a B&O. She remembers the quality from the products we owned in the 70s. I take her in to a B&O store and she wants out almost immediately - she's not in there for more than 5 minutes.

Why? Obviously she doesn't understand technology, but she then sees the price for a B&O TV and, women being women, think it's obscene.

On top of this, the older generation are being alienated by a lot of modern TV. There's so little on the box for them, getting them out to spend £7000 on a TV to watch Downton Abbey, is going to be a major battle :)

Actually, come to think of it, what does the older generation watch on their TV these days? Rarely are there any movies that are aimed at the traditional B&O audience and TV is aimed at the X-Factor generation?

Re: Bang & Olufsen woos women with 'female interaction' study

Chris:

I think you're missing the point... nobody's saying B&O shouldn't try to reach the female audience that knows what she wants and could even afford it with her own money (instead of using the housekeeping allowance kindly granted by his successful husband).

But the angle isn't from this millennium. I don't think these women are going to be those who go "Oh James, you press that button, I don't want to break it". Or they might not indeed be lured by pink products either

Re: Bang & Olufsen woos women with 'female interaction' study

tournedos:

You are being very kind, I'd say that the B&O marketing strategy and corporate thinking is not from the 1950s its light years behind!

Are we in back in the 1950's?

Reminds me of a study that was made on newspaper items about road
accidents. If the driver was female, the wording implied that it was
caused by driver interaction a lot more often than if the faulty party
was male - in the latter case, it was the car that veered off the road,
etc.

Don't know if people that actually think that way have gotten
any fewer, though... they're just learning to better keep their mouth
shut. This could go well with wealthy buyers in their 70s, though.

Bang & Olufsen woos women with 'female interaction' study

An interesting read? http://www.techradar.com/news/world-of-tech/bang-olufsen-woos-women-with-female-interaction-study-1042476
