This has made me want an AV9000 - always loved the look - I bought a BV1LS for my bedroom as the avant was too big but am now thinking AV9000 may have been better - is the AV9000 link compatible?

Mind you, although I would buy an MX7000 or MX8000, for just slightly more money I think i'd look for a nice condition Avant with a Beo4 in good nick - cracking TV and an unbelievable bargain these days A 5-grand TV for a couple of hundred quid...!!

I'm pretty sure the horizontal line fret you talk about was the MX8000 which superseded the MX7000. Pretty sure all 7000's (and 8000's of course) had the active speakers. It was the previous model, the MX6000 that still had the bass reflex sound.

I'd still buy a 7000 or an 8000 if my budget was less than £100 (with decent remote)

I just remembered to have read somewhere, that the first models of the MX7000's didn't have the line and the active speakers, but I must have been mixing the different models together.

Here are some opinions found on beworld (sorry, did not take notes of the authors):

"Here are my findings with CRT Televisions. I would also like the input of Jason at Iconic too here.. although he may not be as experienced (in time) dealing with the products, he invariably goes through the same rigmorole of faults and talks a lot of sense!

BeoVision 1 - Bulletproof.. never had a tube fail in all my time. Incredibly reliable.
BeoCenter 1 - Tube bulletproof, DVD Mech flaky as hell.. replaced loads.
MX Range - Tube bulletproof, never replaced one yet and never had any problems. A great TV.
RF Screen Avant - Never had a 28" blow on me
BeoVision 3 - Never seen a 28" blown

AV9000 - Tube okay, seen a few blown but not loads. Usually the mechanical curtains that die or the VCR Mech goes boom.
Curved Screen Avant - 28" getting very flaky, blowing regularly. 32" seem a lot stronger, only ever seen 2 blown.
RF Screen Avant - Never had a 28" blow on me and have never heard of one going, but have seen a number of 32" versions gone.
BeoVision 3 - Never seen a 28" blown, but seen quite a few 32" versions gone. The 'Red Lines' are a dead giveaway!
As for the older LX ranges and the like, i rarely see them to be honest so cannot comment. However, i regularly get people talking to me with LX5500's, LX6000's and the like still going strong today!!
Take from that what you will - it's just an honest account of my experiences dealing with B&O day-to-day..."

That is why I bought a Beovision 3-28 as a small TV not often used in my home office. It is in a corner where it really does look like a flat TV.

All MX 7000 had active speakers and the MX 6000 had passive speakers.

I had a MX 7000 many years ago. I sold it and bought a AV 9000 that I still use. If the CTR is used as a stand alone product I would choose a MX 7000 every day in the week. The mono speaker in the AV 9000 is not as good as the stereo spekers in the MX 7000. It´s unbelivable that the AV 9000 look as good as it does more than 20 years. When turned of it looks like a flatscreen standing right infront of it. If buying a B&O CTR I think the Avant is the best buy today. In fact I am thinking of buying a late 32" DVD Avant instead of ha new LCD/Plasma from B&O. But I will never sell the AV 9000. It will always be an icon that I will find space for.

Thanks for all your informative posts. I realise it's a dated set and not worth much, so <£50 with remote is a maybe....the father in law has just always really liked these and isn't keen on LCD screens.

Coincidentally, my neighbour has an AV9000 as well but is keeping that one, nice lookin set up.

The type number on the back dates it to 1993, one of the first made but I think they all have active speakers.

Will see if I can find a stand as the set kind of becomes impractical without the dedicated stand.

You don't say where you are Duncan but in the UK, these TV's are virtually worthless and are obtainable for not much more than the price of the remote, say £40 if it comes with a Beolink 1000.

Most people here will end up selling the remote and taking the TV to the council dump. I have dumped loads of them!

The stand that you mention is NOT compatible with the MX7000 as it has the wrong mounting plate fitted. It has the mounting plate for the 4000 series.

The whole reason for introducing the MX7000 was active speakers and I have never seen one without them.

The AV9000 is an MX6000 in a fancy box with a mono only speaker and a redundant video recorder that nobody uses now. The mechanical "curtains" are now notoriously unreliable and the tubes are coming to the end of their useful working lives. The remote is now worth far more than the TV. Some present for a father in law!!!

That depends on the version of the MX7000 - Earlier models didn't have active speakers. Duncan, you can check if the MX7000 has active speakers by looking at the fret - if it has a horizontal line through it, then it has active speakers. But the active stereo speakers wouldn't make me pick the MX7000 rather than the AV9000. The AV9000 is something unique IMO, and has some sort of "WOW" factor, so I could compromise with the stereo. But again, it's a matter of taste.

Why don't you go for an Beovision AV9000 instead? It's simply just a MX6000/7000 in another design, but IMO a much more beautiful and elegant design! The AV9000 has built in motorised stand, Beocord VX7000 (Don't think your gonna need that, but still! ), Dolby Surround Sound, electric curtains and other options - Take a look here.
