When they get hard, the humming of the transformer het through to the chassis of the BeoMaster. In that case replacing the bushings solves the problem!

Re: Grounding pin on Beomaster 5500

The grounding pin is mainly for the chassis ground of record decks. However, Beograms with DIN cords don't need it, as the chassis ground is connected through the sleeve of the DIN plug. You would only need it to attach record players with RCA wiring.

The hum most probably is mechanical noise from the mains transformer - many Beomasters suffer from it when they get older. I'm afraid there's not much you can do about it, other than put it on a surface that doesn't resonate and amplify the hum. Often just relocating it a bit on the shelf or table helps.

Grounding pin on Beomaster 5500

Hi all,

2 quick questions:

1. What's the grounding pin for on my Beomaster 5500?
Should my Beogram 5005 be wired to it? At the mo it's just connected with the DIN plug.

2. A faint hum is noticeable when the Beomaster is in standby. It's very quiet, but after listening at night it's possible to hear from about 6 feet away. Is this anything to do with a grounding wire not being connected to the pin and on to, say, a nearby radiator?

Many thanks in advance.
