It's actually on the drop down door for your MCP5000 - set the volume as desired and press control, store, balance right.

Store, sound, then what? My MCP doesn't have a "sound" button. Volume, status? Or down below balance, bass treble? MCP 5000

One more thing...Does anyone out there know how to program the start up volume for a Beomaster with MCP. When I turn it on, it comes on @ 4:0. I would like to set it @ 2:8 or thereabouts. I bought a Product Description Beosystem 5000, but although it says you can program it, it doesn't say how to do it.

Thanks, Martin. I would like to get a set of belts from you , as well as repairing the power supply. Now it won't open when you push the panel. Any info on disassembly/assembly/etc.. would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard these were great decks, thats why I got two. ($8.00 US on ebay for one, the other was a gift).

Let me know how to get the stuff.

New belts. The maximum load on the belts are when the tapehead bridge engages and disengages so its typical to see the
deck locked midcycle at exactly that point.
If the motor was blocked as the belts went, there will also be a minor repair to do in the power supply (light smoke from a
fusible resistor at the back of the Beocord).
I can supply parts if needed and instructions can be included with the belts to aid removing an eventual stuck tape from the
Beocord without damaging neither the deck nor the tape.

One of the Beacord 5000's has stopped smoking, so I'm playing with it. It opens and closes (after 5 seconds or so it closes on its own), counter lights come on, but I can't put a tape in. Drive mechanism is engaged and the metal tabs that keep you from removing it are in what I assume is the play position. I took the cover off, but haven't done much else. Any thoughts?

When I powered my Beocord 5000 up for the first time the capstan motor would begin to whine and smell burnt. I went for repair and the problem was not that big, can't remember what it was though

I have a user manual (copy) on the way, that may help me navigate the remote.

Glad you fixed the jumper problem - I have one of my BM 5000s wired with simple RCA cables, the others have the jumpers as shown in the photo. The purpose of this setup, is to be able to interface an equaliser between the pre-amp and the power-amp should you want one (and no, there was not a 5000 equaliser made by B&O).

When I plug my Denon CD player into "line in" with the RCA jacks, it sounds great. It doesn't respond to the MCP, but I assume that is because of the RCA connections, instead of the 7 pin DIN.

There are control signals sent on the DIN cable as part of a protocol called DATALINK; I doubt that the Denon will respond to those.

The CD50 of course does respond to these commands, including skimming for track selection (or exclusion); however CD50s do age.

I think you may have to disassemble the Beocords to see what has happened. You will find lots of instructions and photos on how to do that in old forum threads.

Thank you. RCA's in place and it is sounding great. I'll get a DIN adapter for the CD player, or, better yet a CD50 to complete the system. And, of course some S55's or RL60's to replace the old KLH model 17's I'm playing through now.

Any thoughts on why my beocord 5000's are smoking (I have two, one with a tape stuck in it)? It seems I remember seeing something on this forum or somewhere else saying that (smoking) was a common problem with them.

Without the jumpers there should be no sound at all from the speaker outputs (and from the headphone output as that's just a copy of the speaker output with a limiting resistors). Without the jumpers (line ins not connected) the output amp is not getting anything in, but perhaps in about max. volume the crosstalk is enough for some sound to make it through.

Jumpers are the neatest option but just an ordinary 2xRCA male - 2xRCA male cable will do. Left/right outs to left/right ins and it should work normally.
