This from the user manual -

(I turned the TV on using TV not DTV)

> Press MENU to call up the main menu.
> Press 3 to call up the Setup menu.
> Press 4 to call up the Connections menu (5 if a
motorised stand is installed).
> Press n to select a socket.
> Press m or p to step through the list of available
equipment types until you fi nd what you have
connected. Select None if nothing is connected.
> When you have selected your equipment types,
press GO to store your settings or press EXIT to
leave all menus without storing.

I have just followed those instructions to be sure it works and the list comes up. I get a choice of 50 boxes. Below is what I have on my list and I beleieve it is the original software in my non HD BV5. (The list was emailed to me by my BEO Repair technician so I didn't need to sit in front of the TV and type it all here lol)

I have three, all working and all updated. They do need to pick-up a software update at the right time and we did initially have programmes scrambled and in the wrong order in Oct 2010. Here in the North West (where we went digital many years ago) there was a big problem when the North Wales transmitters seemed to overwhelm the Winter Hill signal at many locations (and because the N. Wales signals were earliest in the frequency list when retuning). So whenever we do a retune/ update, it's always a case of pulling the aerial lead out until the STB search is halfway through, and then all the correct transmissions are picked-up and sorted by the software.

Depending on the dealer call-out charges, buying or even upgrading a used HDR1 (or later recorder capable of being taken into the dealership) has got to be better than paying £200+ for a home visit just for the STB chip. The only draw back is having to select the recorder on the Beo4, and then hit the yellow button to go to the STB.

The Panasonic TU CT20/30 are now scarce and since the transmitter updates in Oct 2010 they no longer work as they can find all of the multimplexes. For £35 tuner and £80 stb chip fitted it will save you and your client time and lots of hassle, trust me as I have been there! The B&O option is amazing but quite costly for a retro fit

Stuart

Re: Which Freeview box for Beovision 5

kai:

Got a customer who has the beovision 5 non hd, at the moment controls sky plus box, but he wants to have a frreeview box connected so he watch that on beovision 1 upstairs, anybody know which box will work without have to get the software upgraded!!

Paul

My BV5 was pre-freeview, so I finished up getting an HDR1 which already had the later STB module (rather than pay £200 for a B&O call-out and module change.) The freeview boxes listed in the early to mid 2000's were the Panasonic TU 20 or 30 (or such similar number- listed in other posts I've made.)

You can only get that particular box on the second hand market, although if you delve around on the Lintronic website you might be able to identify a later available Panasonic model that has the same codes.
