After listening to my tweeters for a while now, I thought I would give an update.

So far I have only tested on the original design, cap values unchanged. Sorry, I promise I'll get around to putting those new caps in Rich.

My biggest observation is that they are not beneficial all of the time. They work well - and are wonderful to listen to - on non treble-heavy tunes. Songs with lots of hiss and recording noise make the experience unpleasant, sometimes even painful to the ear. This is all probably sounding very obvious, but it didn't seem to cross my mind before hand.

My observations were also confirmed by a fellow BeoWorlder, love and hate type of thing.

The all-desired dispersion effect is noticeable, that's for sure. When appropriate, I always have these running! Very solid image.

EDIT: I guess I should add in some thoughts about listening positions. The cubes certainly do help with my surplus of seating arrangements, the upper tones are spread well and suprisingly evenly.

On the topic of dispersion, transparency seems related due to the extra tweeters. Having the ball of sound, gives the illusion of the sound actually happen in the room. They definitely have an effect of sense of space.

Power handling is less than expected, when pressed, the 4500 keeps pulling them down to 76-78 on the volume scale. These numbers sound crazy, I'm sure, but my listening space is HUGE! Approx. 900 ft^2 / 84 m^2

Re: BeoVox 2500 by Evan

Søren Mexico:

Evan its now T- +24 min. whats up

Sorry Søren! I have been listening!

I am happy to report a successful first session! Not only do they work, but they work well!

Lots of sparkle with these. Sound a bit tense but really only noticeable when you listen exclusively to the cubes. I'll be going back over tomorrow to let them get some more playing in.

At first I started with a white noise signal to see if all the drivers were working and to check balance, you know, the vitals. Checked out fine.

Started playing some tunes, through the cubes alone. The output is definitely less than I expected, Peter's similar comments about the original BeoVox 2500 come to mind. However, I am hearing more sound information than I thought I would.

Alright, now that they've warmed up it's time to add in the main speakers. I started with the JBLs and Conas then added in my BeoLab 5000s. The effect is definitely present, there's treble everywhere! Near and far, they produce a spectacular image.

After not too long I found myself going beyond 50 on the volume scale, these cubes are fun to listen to! I reeled it back fearing the units hadn't enough time to play-in quite yet.

The cubes alone are running off my BeoMaster 4500 directly. I think this has a lot to do with the performace I am getting. Cymbals crashing, finger tips running down guitar strings and triangles flow over bass tones without distortion. Phenomenal!

I cannot wait to go back and rock out tomorrow!!

Re: BeoVox 2500 by Evan

Evan its now T- +24 min. whats up

Re: BeoVox 2500 by Evan

Leslie:

The originals are 2 inch drivers and there is a very suitable replacement HERE

Thanks Evan, they are extremely cheap. I only need someone who can order them for me since the minimum order qty is 50$ for International purchase.

Why not use cone tweeters? The disadvantage of cones is that they are more directional than domes but as you are mounting 6 in each cube, this is not a problem. A good cone can be very good in the right circumstances!

So Peter, if I take cones where can you find such small ones that fits in the cube. The impedance does not really matter, I can choose from 4 to 8 ohms and what about the inside cap? Sorry, but no knowledge at all regarding to speakers. Any suggestions where I could by these cones, if possibly cheap (less the 10 euro each)? Not bad considering the project started last year!

Re: BeoVox 2500 by Evan

Leslie:

Have the same passion as you I guess (lots of ideas and bringing them alive).

Can you or others tell me what tweeters I have to look for regarding to ohms and frequence? The originals are 6 ohms. Saw this on a Dutch webshop. Need 12, so have to start with a cheap alternative...

This Beoviris is great, isn't it?

As you know, the originals are cone tweeters. Since you will have top-mounting, your options are pretty much whatever you prefer. The difficult part regarding impedance is that the original was 6 ohms which is going to be hard to find in a modern tweeter.

I chose silk dme tweeters because I like the way they sound, the Dayton tweeters I have bought are 4 ohms a piece. I have arranged each set of 6 tweeters to have a total impedance of 6 ohms.

THIS is where I bought my tweeters.

Re: BeoVox 2500 by Evan

Why not use cone tweeters? The disadvantage of cones is that they are more directional than domes but as you are mounting 6 in each cube, this is not a problem. A good cone can be very good in the right circumstances!
