They usually work for a week or so. I've had two second hand, both back to the dealer within days, broken, with the same problem as yours. Luckily I got mine from a dealer who returned my money.

Re: Disc Error (DVD1 mark I)

You could try cleaning the laser lens but this usually does not work.

Mk1 DVD1's are a lottery, I am surprised that this one was still working!

The repair involves replacing the DVD mechanism so will not be cheap!!

You will be astounded at how little you have bought when you take the lid off and see all that fresh air in the box.

Disc Error (DVD1 mark I)

I very recently acquired a DVD1 (mark I) from a fellow Beoworlder.

After working on Monday and Tuesday, it threw a "Disc Error" on a 'new' DVD.

Tests with DVDs and CDs that worked on Monday and Tuesday are now failing - either after 5 minutes, or simply not registering at all.

Is there a simple home handyman approach to this ? (cleaning the insides)

Or is it off to B&O for a maintenance quote ?

Or .......
