In the 15 years I've been dealing with B&O, spanning literally thousands of purchases - I've never once come across an item advertised that seemed too good to be true and actually existed.

Bargains do happen - that's true enough, but if something is advertised at a stupidly low price, it's designed purely to play on a natural human emotion. Greed.

I skip straight over things like this, but i used to ask for a phone number to have a chat about the product(s). No reply - it's a scam, or they've sold. Why would you not want to talk to someone interested in buying something you have for sale? That's my way of thinking anyway..

Of course, they're magnificent and in brand new condition. They are the best computer speakers in the world LOL. I'm so glad they were the MK1's with the power button on each speaker. Also, nice to briefly meet you.

I've had good experience recently buying BL4000's from another guy here in Melbourne. The smart way would be to contact the seller and ask them what is the type number, then you can research their age, etc.

Sometimes you never know what financial position is in and if it's all borrowed money, sometimes you are forced to sell.

I would love to buy second hand Beolab 5 under market price from someone desperate that lived above their financial means by borrowing money because of the low interestrates that have been reality the last years. Who would not? But I think you must be a realist. The asking price 3500- 4000 Euro is too cheep.

Yes, I plan to buy Beolab 5 once the prices settles to a level that are stabil. I´m not mentaly ready to pay 10 000 Euro for speakers no matter how good they are yet.

The usual second hand price in Germany is around 10.000 Euro per pair, ex shipping.

I've seen some sell for 9.500, some for 11.000 if its "buy it now" on ebay... the cheapest pair I've seen was around 9k but it was an auction and local pickup somewhere in Europe...

Anything below is either damaged, scratched like no good or just someone trying to rip you off.

Do you plan to get some 5's?

As they are not on the market that often, it is in this case the market that sets the price. I don't think it's like a car where there is a nominated depreciation (which may cause some debate), but in the end the market sets the price ultimately.

Always a chance of getting scammed online, and even more so with expensive, and too good to be true prices.

I think you are right. Searched the french forum yesterday and found a thread. Could be the same people fishing for people to scam. I used google translate to understand what the french members wrote.

Definitely. Once you find yourself sending downpayments over Western Union for too good to be true deals you haven't even seen, you know you've been had.

Just out of curiosity. Is it common that there are scams on second hand equipment from B&O? I looked at two ads from abroad and both advertised Beolab 5 speakers but with different prices. I belive that they where too good to be true. Haven´t even contacted the sellers. Even with the financial crises around Europe, I don´t think anyone is so desperate that they sell Beolab 5 speakers so cheep. Dealers would pick them up if that would be the case and sell them to potential buyers. What does Beolab 5 speakers sell for these days second hand? Where I live the price for new ones is around 19 800 Euro. Secondhand prices around 10000 Euro. But they are not on the market often so it´s hard to tell what´s the normal accepted price.
