I asume you used the V.Tape command to activate the V.tape connector. There might be a matter of SW version. There are circumstances where SPDIF2 Input switches to DECODER socket when Source V.TAPE is assigned to V.Tape connection.

Regarding your test using the AV connection: You should assign V.Tape2 instead of non B&O Tape 2. In this case you have to add the command DVD2 or V.Tape2 to your Beo4. DVD2 and V.Tape2 are the identical IR-Commands, ther are only different names for the same source.

The SCART connector needs the following connections: Red/White Stereo sound, Yellow Video Signal. Be careful to use a "Input connector" on the scart socket. There are input and output types for these adapter plugs.

In this configuration the Avant will display the video received on the Scart socket + digital sound if present. If no digital sound is present or format not recognized, the stereo sound will be played.

hfat

hfat and Mika,

Many thanks for the responses. I've since had a play around with the settings and have managed to get the digital input to work. As hfat pointed out, the digital input socket only seems to work in conjunction with the AV socket which has now been assigned to V.Tape 2 (thanks to Mika) and the digital audio input has appeared as a dolby signal!

Couldn't have done it without the helpful people on this forum, thanks again.

As far as I know the (European) Avant will only accept RGB video, not component in the strict sense of the word (YUV or YCrCb). So if you have a simple 3xRCA (YUV) to SCART adapter, it's not going to work.

bobulus:

On the same subject, I have also tried to use the AV scart input, but with no success as I do not seem to be able to select this on the tv, having added AV to the beo 4 menu and made sure that the connections menu states non B & O V.tape 2?

AV by itself is not a command at all. In the usual B&O way, as the end user holding a remote you do not select a particular socket, you select a source. As you have assigned V.TAPE2 to the AV socket, the correct command to select it is V.TAPE2.

Sorry I have no idea on the audio issue - either it needs a detected video signal to play audio at all, or the audio format coming from your source is something the Avant is not able to decode.

Re: Avant connection queries

hfat:

Hello David,

Which type of device are you connecting to the V.Tape scart?

How are the settings in the connection menu?

Which coaxial input did you use?

hfat

hfat,

Thanks for the quick response!

I was trying to link all of my equipment into an AV-Reciever that can cope with digital sound inputs and a digital sound output. There is an array of equipment, some old and some new, from a laserdisc player to an Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 has an optical output that would give dolby surround sound as opposed to stereo. The amp can recieve this and recognises it as digital input and states that dolby is being recieved, but when I have tried to connect the audio output from the amp to the input 2 socket (to go with the V.Tape scart) it seems to get no sound. I have connected the V.tape to the amp via a video phono output (although not the component phonos as described above). Speaking of the component connectivity issue, is this likely to be that not all of the pins are connected within the avant v.tape socket?

To clarify, I have been using this avant for a number of years now by merely using the v.tape scart socket for connections, with no digital audio ever tried. I have seen in the manual that the inputs are assigned to AV (input 1) and V.tape (input 2), but as I say, I have yet to hear any sound coming through the speakers from using input 2 with V.tape. On the same subject, I have also tried to use the AV scart input, but with no success as I do not seem to be able to select this on the tv, having added AV to the beo 4 menu and made sure that the connections menu states non B & O V.tape 2?

Hope that clears things up a little, even if it has added another layer of questions?

thanks

First post, so be gentle. I have an Avant 32RF DVD that I am currently trying to connect things up to. Two queries really -

1) I wanted to connect to the scart (V.Tape) input with a scart lead that has component phonos on the other end so it can come from my amp source. I have bought a lead, but when trying to connect it up today have had no joy with either the amp output or a DVD player by itself. Is this not a possibility?

2) In conjunction with the above, I wanted to use the coaxial input to accompany the scart interface to gain digital sound input. The manual I have states that this can be done, but I cannot seem to get a peep out of the speakers when I have connected this to this input. Is this an input you have to activate in some manner?

Thanks in advance,
