Yes - but just a piece of wire will get you started.

The connector you need is known by a lot of names, you can read more here.

Congratulations on the 4400!

Re: Beomaster 4000 vs. 4400

Many thanks to previous posters for their thoughts. I've gone and aquired the Beomaster 4400 and have hooked up my Beogram 4000 to it. Now to get the tuner working properly I need to find an antenna/aerial to suit. Am I correct in assuming that I need to find one with a male PAL connector?

Re: Beomaster 4000 vs. 4400

I think the Beomaster 4400 is probably the best combination of sound and build quality of any of the B&O receivers that I have owned or heard and is almost contemporary with the BG4000. I love my 4400 and listen to it above all others now, even my BM 8000-based system.

Tim Jarman calls it the 'audiophile's choice' from the Beomasters and with a really good pair of contemporary speakers - for small rooms, S45.2s, or even better, at least if you have the space, M75s or M100s, you will have a magnificent, accurate and musical system from the seventies.

It will also drive odd loudspeaker loads - for example, 15ohm speakers or even Quad Electrostatics ESL 63s without any trouble at all. And a CDX works really well with it.

There is an interesting paper on its development on site which, although written by B&O , explains the various strategies employed in the design. One of the problems the 4400 has is that it does resemble the 3000 and 4000 and is seen as a development rather than a completely different model. The later Beomaster 6000 actually shares a lot of the same design and even the 8000 owes a large part of its architecture to that of the 4400 though expanded in areas such as the power supply. I think the fit and finish of this model was not achieved in the later models and was beaten only by the Beolab 5000 system of 10 years before.

I actually like the black finish and therefore have a Beomaster 4401!

Re: Beomaster 4000 vs. 4400

I've owned both and decided in the end to keep the 4400 and sell the 4000.

4400 is much better!

Re: Beomaster 4000 vs. 4400

I'd go with a 4400, as I think that the alu fascia better matches the Beogram 4000. It delivers a wealthy 75 watts in 4 ohms, has accurate sound shaping options, a nice FM radio and options for two tape decks. The 4400 is basically a developed version of the 4000, the difference isn't that big at all

Beomaster 4000 vs. 4400

With a Beogram 4000 now under the roof (thank you Peter for your helpful advice on cartridges), it seems a shame not to match it to an era-appropriate receiver.

My understanding is that the Beomaster 4000 is the "correct" match for this deck, but the 4400 seems to have better specs, as well as a silver faceplate (which I prefer from an aesthetic point of view).

I'd be most interested in thoughts on the pros and cons of these receivers as a match for the Beomaster. Many thanks in advance.
