No, not that I would say (they are a little heavy)

No, just lift straight upwards

Yes (one side over the edge to tighten the screw, I think there are 3)

Thanks for the very pratical advice and really appreciate the photos! This is just the sort of info I am after. I will advise the seller to do these things. Great to know that the platter comes off. Are there any tips or tricks to removing the platter? are they sometimes hard to remove? are there any tools or techniques that can be used to help remove the platter? also is it necessary to tighten the transport screws with the turntable being flat on a table?

Cheers

thanks for the super quick reply. I was aware the Beogram 6500 was similar setup but was unaware that the 5005 was the original version of this turntable. When I googled 'transporting beogram 7000' or '6500' I found very little info regarding this topic. I will check out the link you provided. Yes, it would be best to pick up this unit but it would require me flying 2000kms and then hiring a car and driving another 70km and back. This would cost me at least $500, and I haven't even told the misses that I bought the turntable yet!

Thanks again,

Make sure the sender packs the beogram in one box and then this box and the platte in another box.

Just sent one like this myself, it arrived safely ;-)

There have been a number of threads on this site about transporting Beograms - you're right to be concerned as many of the threads outline the receipt of damaged kit!

Here's a link to one of those, where 'DIllen' offers some advice on packing a Beogram 5005 - the original version of the deck that went through many cosmetic variations until it ended up as the 7000 - but basically the same deck.

http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/p/26002/207625.aspx#207625

Of course, ideally you should pick it up from the vendor!

I have just bought a Beogram 7000 on eBay. The sender is keen to do what ever is needed to give it the best possible chance of arriving in one piece. I am in discussions with him regarding packing and I have advised him to remove the platter by lifting it straight up, followed by tightening the transport screws whilst the turntable is flat on a table. Finally I advised him to make a small support for the tone arm, and wrap the entire unit in foam before boxing.

Is it possible to lift the platter off this model Beogram?

Are there any other things he can do to protect the unit for transportation?

Thanks,
