I am locking this thread as it is serving no other purpose other than becoming increasingly offensive. This started out as a genuine concern for fellow members & the people of Japan & I feel for the OP that his original intentions have become somewhat rail roaded.

I'm totally behind Peter here. This is Beoworld, a site for talk about B&O. If you will help people in aid there a better channels. OK, this is a clear case. I don't think anyone would say "not interested in helping", but when will we draw the line and who will draw the line. Don't forget that the disaster in Japan gets a lot of media time because its "a modern land" and lots of cameras caught the waves. I must say I'm devastated by the multiple disasters hitting Japan this weekend, but it dies more children in Africa of malaria every year. Shall we demand Lee to take action there as well?

Chris,

As I occasionally do some donations whenever I have sold items here on this forum my thoughts were that we could use this as an exception for the Japan disaster.

Sometimes you have to grab the oppurtunity to seek and find just to raise money.

Maybe I'm the only one here who thinks that this is the way to do it.

My experience is that people say a lot but don't actually take the effort to do it!

Why are you dissappointed Leslie?

I think you need to take a deep breath and simply remember that Beoworld is a site dedicated to Bang & Olufsen. We aren't a registered charity & members don't generally visit here looking to make donations to worthwhile causes.

My experience tells me that 99% of Beoworlders are highy intelligent & humanitarian people who will react the same way as I have and donate to the relief fund through the appropriate channels. Unfortunately Beoworld isn't an appropriate channel and will never be one. I obviously admire you're efforts in raising awareness of the gravity of the situation.

I know that Peter, I'm a member for nearly 2 years. Bit difficult to explain what my intentions are or were. I was hoping to use Beoworld as a center to encourage members to donate but nobody seems to be interested so I will stop this discussion.

Was hoping Lee would say some words but okay.....

Last remark though (can't help it), it's easy to say that... ahh forget it!

No, but I am the moderator and have been since this forum first started. As you have said, action seems rather more important than words. I have donated already and I imagine so have quite a few people.

I would suggest you donate directly to the Japanese Red Cross - that is what I have done. You should be able to do it via your national red cross site.As stated before, this is the most cost effective way of giving.

Having attended Waseda University in the past, and more recently my eldest son at Sendai, we feel we owe the Japanese whatever we can do to help. Our family just sent off 2 cartons of 10 big Swiss Armee Wool Blanket rolls, wool hats, jackets, and gloves via the IRC. The SA jackets may be big, but I don't think anyone cold will mind. A cheque went along with it. The IRC will then transfer the carton and the funds to the JRC.

Like many countries a Swiss emergency team was sent, with search dogs, and we are told is already there. Blankets, food and water seem to be the scarce items at the moment. Food is available, but the distribution still remains a problem for the moment.

The scale of this disaster is huge: One village alone has 9,500 unaccounted for.
