Are you using thick or thin powerlink to connect the speakers to the BeoSystem 3? There's an extra conductor in the thick cable that triggers the speakers to turn on and off.

Did you try what happens if you set BL5 to L.OPT 1? It should respond to commands directly. Disconnect the Powerlink and try to start BL5 directly.

You said BL5 are working properly when they are activated - do they respond to volume commands?

If calbration mode doesnt work either, it sounds like a kind of security mode the BL5 are switched to automatically...(?) But then stdby lights should flash or light should be amber.

After re-plugging it in (it had been unplugged), I was able to set the option program to zero and it seemed to work for a very short period of time, but it reverted back to its previous unresponsive behavior.

BTW: When the speaker is in this unresponsive mode, holding the top will not put it into calibration mode. It is entirely unresponsive until its power cycled (sometimes several minutes of power off is required to get it back).

welcome to Beoworld.

Your BL5 problem could be a wrong option setting. If you want them to be controlled by your BS3, it should be L.OPTION 0.

This option will let the BL5 receive IR commands via Powerlink. To change L.OPT press and hold STDBY and LIST on your Beo4, press LIST again until OTION?, press GO, scroll to L.OPT press 0. Now your BL5 should receive commands via BS3 incl. on/off.

Failed Pair of Beolab 5s

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like mine and any suggestions. I bought my Beolab 5 speakers about 6 years ago when in lived in California. I subsequently moved to Hawaii. About a year ago, one of the speakers would no longer respond to the power on/off from the Beosystem 1. The red light on the top would just stay illumated. For a while, I could unplug the speaker and it would come back on green. The speaker would fully operate when it was on, it just wouldn't turn on (or off) on command with thte Beosystem. I switched to a Beosystem 3, but the same thing happened. It became more and more difficult to get the speaker to turn on.

Now the second speaker has done exactly the same thing - will not respond to on/off commands, but works perfectly when on. The worst part of all of this is that Hawaii has no B&O dealer and cost of shipping the speaker is unbelievable due to insurance (if I can even get insurance). So, I'm looking at flying the repair people out to Hawaii to fix it. Is this possibily because of the humidity in Hawaii? Has anyone else seen this? It's interesting that both speakers have failed identically. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
