I have been informed that to use the BS5 as Audio Master NO you must you an active kit in the same room.

I.E. I want the BS5 in a link room with speakers connected to it. The main room has a BS9k and a BV9 (the audio and video masters)

So, apparently I must use an active kit on the ML network in the link room with the BS5 so I can hear music from it in the link room as well as distribute the music from it to the rest of the house. .

thoughts?

While this sounds weired, I think this is correct. I have a BS9K + BS5 in one room and BV8 in another. I tried moving the speakers from the BS9K to the BS5, and I couldn't get it to work locally - I could call up N.Music from another link room, but the BS5 did not drive the attached speakers. This leads me to believe that the BS5 only drives connected speakers if Audio Master ON. It could also mean my speakerless BS9K is gumming up the works (but I didn't really have time to do a detailed test). Also, as mentioned above, even with the BS9K connected properly, if I turn on the BS5 directly (via the button on the back of the display), my TV goes to N.Music mode. This would make sense if they were in the same room, but they're not (but I don't see any way to tell it this). Probably not what you want... hence, add an active to the room and then you can access all sources and the BS5 will distribute sound... I don't know what B&O charge, but you can often find BL Actives on auction sites for ~$100 (I bought one once without any problems).

I am planning on using the Beosound 5 just for music. Actually was planning on calling dealer today to see if I need to have it connected to the TV for set up or any other purpose if all I want to do is use the Beosound 5 for music.

You need not connect your BS5 to a TV. The one issue that I have with this setup (BV8 in room 1, BS5 + BS9000 in another room), is that if I turn on the BS5 locally (by pressing the button on the backside of the BS5 display), it turns on the TV, or if the TV is on, it will switch from TV to N.Music. This would make sense if the TV and BS5 were in the same room, but they are not... I guess ML (being a passive network) doesn't care (or know) about rooms.

To avoid this, I just have to remember to turn on the BS5 via Beo4 N.Music command to the BS9000.

I have my BeoSound 5 connected to my BeoVision 7-55. I have all my music in WMA lossless and have used mp3tag program to add 500x500 covers to all files.

It looks amazing on both the tv and beosound screen.

I have all the speakers connected to the BV7-55, and the BeoSound 5 MasterLinked. When pressing CD there is just music and cover on the BeoSound 5. When pressing PC the cover and title is also displayded on the TV.

As a tecnical note I can add that if you have the right cables between TV and BeoMaster 5 then the music will be transferede digitally to the BV7 when using the PC option. When using the CD (N.Music) the sound travels between BeoMaster and TV via MasterLink (analouge).

Admittedly, I was a bit nervous when ordering as, in my opinion, when advanced software in introduced in any product, it usually increases complexity and the risk of problems.

However, I have been positively surprised. It really is very easy to use, including copying playlists from iTunes/WMP with one click. There are a few beginners problems with the settings which the dealer is currently looking into, and you will need a few hours to play around with it and familiarise yourself with the functions, so in that respect it does take a bit more "work" than a plug-and-play solution like the BS9000. But once that is done, it's a great piece of machinery! And a stunner!

Re: Beosound 5 verses Beosound 9000

I am planning on using the Beosound 5 just for music.
I wanted to go digital and the BeoSound 5 was the answer.

More discreet and less show-off than the 9000 but it has the real B&O touch.

I like the design, the materials and love the Graphical User Interface, very simple, very clean with a touch of magic.

I like the MOTS concept too, very clever.

There are some drawbacks : the long and numerous cables, the big size of the BeoMaster 5, the computer-dependent CD load.
