Yeap I know what you mean. Concerning the cost of the ISDN is rather very little difference with the standard PSTN. Only 3 euros difference per month so I really don't mind on this!! About IP (already used in my offices, Skype is really excellent for home use especially so I don't mind for that either!

The connectors are probably 2x RJ11 for the telephone lines (usually the ISDN service has two extensions) and 2 x RJ45 for internet connection. Usually the speed on the ISDN internet connection isn't very much compared to what you get on ADSL or SDSL today, but when ISDN was rolled out for private users back in the days, it was a good alternative for people who needed two lines and internet "out of the box"..

You probably get IP telephony and high-speed internet for a fragment of the price you pay for your ISDN, so what would be the most efficient is for you use your Beocom 6000 with a PSTN base station. Even if you have to buy a new base station, you would probably get a return of investment in less than a year….

Technical question. The ISDN box has 4 connections. 2 are std ISDN and 2 are bigger like the one Beoline ISDN uses. Did you change this cable? Where did you connect it on the box?

I've got mine mkI's working with my BeoCom ISDN. But I can't remember if the 6000's needed a software update.

I've updated the ISDN to 2.24 (don't nail me on that one) for some years ago, and even the BC5 works fine with ISDN base.

I think that I'm one of the very last using ISDN in Greece as well (home).

Will give it a try on the ISDN box.

But still I think I won't be able to use the MKI Beocom 6000.

Hi Spiros,

Regarding your first question, the connection you have directly from your wall is PSTN ( analog) telephony and ISDN is digital, so yes, you need to have the box that is provided from your Telecom provider. Using an ISDN telephone as PSTN or IP telephone is only possible through a complete phone system (from Avaya, Ericsson or similar) which will make it very expensive and very much an overkill for a normal home...

I dont know about Greece, but in northern Europe, ISDN is on decline in favor for IP/analog telephony. In Sweden for instance the ISDN services for private subscribers is not possible any longer. ( I got a BEOCOM 3 ISDN if someone wants it..)

Hope this clarifies things for you...

Regarding the second question, I am not sure, perhaps someone with more insight in that product can answer...

I'm about to instal a Beoline ISDN. My question is the following:

Can it be connected to the wall socket directly or does it have to go through the ISDN modem (given by the phone company)?

another issue is, does the Beocom 6000 (latest soft) but MKi synchronize with the Beoline or it has to be used only with its own base (table charger)?
