Well, the editor of a hifi magazine (a most respected audiophile) was speculating on whether the midrange wouldn't get even better without the fret in front of it. The top driver is a 3/4" 100W tweeter, but the 5" mid-range driver is inside its own pressure chamber, and behind the fret.

Hmmm ...

Well the good thing about black is that when your colour scheme changes, it will still go with anything.

I actually did not like the looks at first, much preferring our red Beolab 1s, but now that we have them I do like the way they look. Ours are black. I am not sure if that would have been my first choice of color. We went to look at the Beovision 7 and the dealer had these and another pair of Beolab 9s in black on display. These had been on display for a month and we were offered an unbelievably good price on them that was too good to resist.

After having the 9s for one and a half weeks I continue to be impressed by them. The sound is really amazing.

Regarding the advice to wait for the Beovision 7 with Beosystem 3, it is already available here in the US. Dealer has advised he can have one for us in two weeks...1080p...full Beosystem 3. We viewed one in the store this past weekend and it was spectacular.

The Beolab 1s in the rear are incredible. They have several benefits. For one, it puts the rear sound much higher than 3s would, unless they were mounted on the wall. Also, as the 1s and 5s receive more bass as the Avant filters out excess bass for the less powerful speakers, the bass that is designed for the rears now comes out as intended rather than being filtered out.

Also, the comment about dealers not being able to get it right is innaccurate in this instance. The information on the Beolab 1 and 5 settings did not come from a dealer, it came from B and O directly, from a specific individual who has provided me with huge amounts of assistance, customer service and advice over the years. In fact, he reccomended the 1s for the rear.

As for what the system sounds like with 1s in the rear, it is incredible. We have 1s, two sets of 4000s, a pair of 6000s, and now the 9s.

We have had both 4000s and 6000s in the rear. The improvement by placing the 1s in the rear is huge.

I totally agree with Ken :
Set the Avant to Beolab 5, and sell or place the Bl2 in another setup.

I also think that Bl1's on the rear are totally waisted, I would suggest to place the 1's in an other setup or sell them, and with the money buy a pair of 3's for the rear which will be almost perfect (in fact it's almost already too much), and after upgrading to BV7 (wait for the Beosystem3-based BV7), you will get a better-than-cinema experience with full ALT speakers...

Incredible that the dealers can't get this right. The bass in BL1 is pitiful compared to BL9.

Hi,

When I got my BL9's I also got the information that I should use the BL1 setting on my BV7. I tried this and found that there was a huge difference in the amout of bass sent to the BL9's when using the BL1 and the BL5 setting. Clearly you shoudl use the BL5 setting to ensure no bass is filtered.

I think the advise for using the BL1 setting is OK if you are using a BL2, but clearly not without a BL2. And I would not reccomend a BL2 to go with the 9's as the bass in the 9's are very very good. Both in therms of power, depth and clearity.
