The second life dealer will "trade" the BL8002 + BL2 for the BL9, but is of cause not able to pass me the BL9 for a weekend. He just gave me a call. He only will collect my speakers and put the 1 year old BL9 on the corner place.

Just stopped at the local B&O dealer. He is also interested in the deal. He will buy my speakers too and will sell me a brand new pair of BL9. I will have the possiblity to listen to the BL9 from the 25th to 28th of Febr.. In the past I did not have any problems regarding trading my used B&O stuff.

So I´m able to judge my current setup BL8002/BL2 against BL9. I just admired the red BL9 at the B&O shop. I`m looking forward to the test. I think the question would not be BL8002/Bl2 vs BL9. The million dollar question would be red BL9 vs black BL9.

Go for the BL9's. Simply the best loadspeaker for the money IMO. BL5 is another category of course, so is its price.

I must confess that I would be unable to borrow a pair of Beolab 9s from a dealer just so I could try them before buying a second hand pair from elsewhere on purely ethical grounds. This will cost the dealer a fair amount with no hope of gain. Or do you mean to get the Beolab 9s from him?

kind of off-topic, but is it your local B&O store that is offering the trade-in opportunity? they woudl never allow something like that here as I have asked all of the stores around me. what do they end up doing with the trade-ins? are they sold used? just curious... thanks.

before I went for the BL2 I bought the BL8002 instead of the BL3 because I liked the "warm" sound and of cause the "blink blink" of the polished metal of the BL8002.
In comparison BL3 to BL8002 (with or without subwoofer) I would not rate the BL3 over the BL8002, so I do not think it would be an improvement. But I could go for a used pair of BL3 as rear speakers, but I`m sure my wife would kill me because of the cables going round the room on the slabs.

Just gave a local dealer a phone call (I did not buy B&O products from him yet). He will pass me a pair of Bl9 for 1-2 days, so I`m able to judge my combo against the BL9.

What about keeping the BL2 and trading in the BL8002 for BL3? Then you have ALT and very well speakers and still the Bassboom you like from your BL2. The best from both worlds.

I do have the BL3 in a far from optimal position but like them a lot. I would guess even your wife likes the smaller speakers more.

My 2 auditions of the BL9 were not to my liking, for music or movies. They needed more mid range which for me made them tiring to listen to.

I think it will be hard for the Beolab 8000/2 to EVER look outdated. Definitely a matter of personal taste I guess. I'll venture to say that the BL8000/2 will age far better than the love-it or hate-it looks of the robot speakers...I mean ALT-type speakers! ;)

Well personally i believe the BL8000 and BL2 is now officially beginning to look outdated and is no longer ahead of the rest, design wise, which is perfectly fine, they've had a good run - 18 years??

I can't believe you chose to purchase new BL8000's with BL2 when you could have had the BL9 for the same money, BL9 is a fantastic speaker, so much simpler too! Have it in any colour you want with the help of a fabric trimmer.

Well, like I said, you're going to have to play with things to get them fine-tuned. I can't see the rest of your room, but the subwoofer might be placed in a non-optimal location. The closer to square your room is, the more peaks and dips in the response it will have.

I'm not too familiar with the Beolab 2 - I don't know whether it has traditional settings for adjustment of phase, gain, and crossover frequency. If it does, crossing over lower is usually better, and phase will vary with placement. Gain you should fine-tune and set while at a loud listening level. I know the wall/free/corner settings are there to compensate for boundary reinforcement - progressively cutting the bass output as you move the speaker closer to the corner.

I'd keep the combo you have over the BL9's - you just need to play with things to get a better, more integrated sound from them.

BL2 setup is "2" for BL8000 (3 for BL1 is too much) and "free standing" (corner and wall are not enough power). BL2 and BL8002 are plugged into the DSS of the BV8-40. Bass and subwoofer are both 50% on the DSS.

Have you tried all the settings on the bl2 ? Setting 1 works for me in my tv room, setting 2 works great for me with my 8000s in my other room. Also do try the corner/wall/open option.
