As for the reliability of the BV5 - there seems to be at least some of us who has experienced what probably is to be regarded as a power supply problem resulting in a high, buzzing noise when showing bright pictures. If my memory does'nt fail I think my 2002 MK 1 BV5 has been used for 222 days in video mode.

From memory these panels are made to last 60,000 hours at least, so just under 8,000 hours means it should have plenty more life in it. The BV5 is by far the most reliable TV i've ever dealt in. I can't rate them highly enough.

As a rough calculation i'd do the following..

the set is roughly 8 years old. So.. (and this is a rough calculation before anyone corrects me..)

365 (days a year) x 8 = 2920

It's 'clocked up' 329 days. so 24 x 329 is the hours it's been actually watched, which is = 7896 hours

So, 7896 divided by 2920 gives around 2.70 hours a day use. This, to me, is low to the lower end of medium daily use.

From memory these panels are made to last 60,000 hours at least, so just under 8,000 hours means it should have plenty more life in it. The BV5 is by far the most reliable TV i've ever dealt in. I can't rate them highly enough.

Just had a look at my service counters on my 2003 BV-5, they read :-

Standby (days) 2691

Audio Mode (days) 0105

Video Mode (days) 0329

On/Off ( x10) 0667

Considering it's now in it's 8th year of course, how would you rate it's usage?

Low / Medium / High ?

I see the boot counter is reading a massive amount, so i possibly suspect the readings have gone bonkers too!

It's had next to no Audio use, plus its only had 37 days use (37 x 24 hours = 888 hours) which is very low.

25,000 turns on means it was turned on/off 28 times an hour (once every 2 minutes) for it's whole life - which is obviously wrong.

I reckon it's had a software 'tizzy' which has screwed up the readings. An engineer on here may back me up (or shoot me down!) on this one..

The seller is a decent bloke, so if there are any past dramas i'm sure he's unaware - otherwise he wouldn't have published the counters!!

Actually the set I was just browsing on ebay is a BV6 26" - and the seller is describing it as 'low used'... ??

A set being switched on 25,000 times is a heck of a lot aint it..?? And being a BV6, it cant be massively old either...

If so, think of it like this..

7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year, over 15 years. That's around 5,500 days.

Admittedly it's a high count, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility to turn your TV on/off 5 times every day..

PS - On BV7's especially, a software error can cause the 'Boot Counter' to go nuts and record some astronomical amounts! Any crazy readings should be ignored.

Could anyone explain the information contained within the 'Service Counters' screen on TV's?

Audio (Days) ?

Video (Days) ?

Boot Counter ?

On ( x10 ) ?

Does a set displaying say 2,500 'on's' mean that it's been switched on 2,500 x 10 times? = 25,000 times?
