yesterday I ordered a pair of silver BL4000 (should be MKII from 2009)
on ebay. Have had a argument with my wife before and I jumped at the
opportunity because she aggred. She did not like the style of the BL3,
BL6000, BL8000. A pair of BL4 we had already listened to and my wife did
not like the sound.

Below please find the photo of the wall where I´m planning to place the
rear speaker (I´ve marked some options). Any idea regarding style and good sound for rear speaker? I
do not have any idea if it is better to put the speaker on the rack,
left and right speaker on each side of the couch or better place it
straight to the wall. Please bear in mind I have BL9 front speaker and
BV 8-40 telly.

Thank you very much for your help and suggestions and sorry for "wasting" your time. But it is always better to chear different opions.

Hahahaha. Sorry if i was misinterpreted. Although i like red, my BL4000's are the classic alu with Black frets. I posted the picture to give an impression of a down firing BL 4000's pair. Not to hint you on the color selection. Sorry for that.
Hi guys,

still have the wish to upgrade my stereo-setup to a surround-setup (my wife not). Please take a closer look at the front and back of the living room. In the past days, I have read all articles regarding rear speakers and mixing ALT-speakers with non ALT-speakers. Even a pair of used BL3 are hard to find under € 2000 and I do not want to burn a big hole in the wallet because I´d like to buy a new B&O telly in 2011. So I`m struggling with given circumstances (room size 22m2 and couch place to the wall) to find the best rear speaker solution for me. I think a pair of used BL are fine.

Option 1: Pair of BL6000 placed left and right of the couch, fixed will wall brackets (I do not think it is working pretty good, because they will point toward the BL9 and not toward the listener.

Option 2: As above, but fixed with wall brackets not at the rear wall, but on the side, pointing towards listener (also not pretty good, because one speaker round 3m away, other speaker only round 30cm).

Option 3: Pair of BL4000 placed on the wall behind the couch (do not think it will work, because my head will be to close.

Option 4: Pair of BL4 (even worser the BL4000 because BL4 incl. wall bracket will point round 30cm into the room, BL4000 only round 12cm).

Option 5. Pair of BL3 paced left and right on the litte phone furniture and CD-rack or fixed with wall brackets (original B&O or better stbbrackets).

Options, option. I`m struggeling with position, size of speaker, ALT + non ALT.

Any B&O addicted also having the same problems? Buy the way, keep in mind, I will not buy new furniture to optimize my "living situation" in the room.

Take care.

Re: Do rear speaker make sense in my setup?

Giving your setup, I should really consider or try if possible, the BL4's. My sitting area is more or less the same as yours, aprox. 3,50 by 4,50 meter and i am using the Beolab 4000 as rear speakers. Sound is very nice, however in movies they are not used as much as you would expect. Or better formulated... the BL4 will probably deliver the same sound quality for movies given the size of the room.

I think a combination of BL4 with a Beolab 11 would bring you more benefit while staying within a certain financial boundaries.

I think I would mount the BL4 either at the wall or at the ceiling.

Re: Do rear speaker make sense in my setup?

hotknife:
