Fixed by a vacuum cleaner! I think I'll clean off the grease which is visible and replace it with fresh grease, before puting the box back into the TV.

Any idea how I can tell whether it's a 6000 or an 8000?

The curved screen avant was based on the v6000, the flat screen avant was based on the v8000, if it's chewing tapes it more than likely it's the pinch roller, if you know anyone locally they should be able to repair that, and you will be up and running again :)

Re: Avant VTR compatability

That's excellent news; thank you, Craig. It basically a modified VX7000 in there. So it just takes a Datalink signal via the scart lead. Exactly like a stand alone VX7000 (or other B&O VTR).

Whilst the RF has a good picture and works well with a DVD1, the Video Tape Recorder (VTR) chews tapes.

Can I simply transplant the good VTR from my curved Avant into the RF version?

I suspect that I may need to move some EPROMs between the VTRs in order to provide the RF with the firmware it expects to see, but are there any other gotchas?
