3D capable sets will work fine with 2D so it's just an enhancement. If 3D becomes obsolete then for many who've bought sets from LG & Samsung for example, they won't be bothered too much I don't think.

My son-in law has had 3 large screen sets in the past 2 years. Now he's just bought a 50" 3D set with a 3D BluRay DVD player, all for about 900 GBP. He'll probably be changing it again in a year or so, so he's not bothered if the 3D part of it becomes redundant by then.

To many younger people, rightly or wrongly, disposability is part of their lives.

I personally like 3d and wouldn't mind seeing a widget or option to add to the telly, as long as it does a half decent job and can be turned off!

I think it is typically arrogant to think it is a fad, while adverts drive TV this is something they (advertisers) will eventually utilise to the full, so 3d is here to stay IMO.

Also it isn't like dvd in that if your telly is 3d capable as long as there is a way to get the 3d image into it in a universal way (interlace or similar) I would think it should always be compatible with the latest decoders etc...

I say bring it on :) but maybe Bno are right in waiting for things to mature a little...

I hope this 3D TV thing is just a fad. Yeah, it's kinda neat with Some material some of the time, but it's little more than a gimmick. How about investing in brining those impressive OLED TV's to market instead...

CES 2011 is underway tomorrow. There will be a lot of 3D TVs. TVs using active 3D. TVs using passive 3D. TVs that hope to be glasses free but despite what the maker claims (Toshiba) are years away unless you like 3 degree viewing angles.

Now that I've said it....maybe we can avoid all of the 3D threads this year.

I am very happy with my Avant and the new Apple TV2. Plenty of content with GREAT picture and sound.
