How did it work out with the filling? I've played around as well and uploaded to the shared folder around 200gb music; approx 31000 mp3 files which worked out fine. Indexing usually takes a while since I previosly used a BeoPort solution. But, here I'm kind of turned off on the handling with the media files on the Beomedia 1. I've been trying to using the Beo4 including accessing the unit via VNC and I had my hopes that it would be kind of like working with the BeoPlayer interface as I've done previously.

Also I don't really see the point of syncing the BeoPlayer installed on a client with BeoMedia; it does a full re-scan everytime I start the BeoPlaer which in my case takes around 2 hours. I had my hope that I would be able to create playlists which I then would sync to the Beomedia which it doesn't. So for the moment stuck; guess that I'm doing something wrong here. Suggestions what to look at to get it to work proper?

Jumping into this thread as well as I recently bought a pre-owned unit (1750 / HW version: 1.000) as well. Did as most other people have done; upgraded the memory from 256MB to 1GB and replaced the 160GB PATA disk with a 700GB PATA. So far it seems that everything works as it should including the cloning of the original disk which after I did a full recovery which gives me the following software specs:

Software version: 3.02.00
Firmware version: 0x189
OS image version: 2.08
OS update version: 3.05

Nice to see, that B&O actually are sending out updated for the Beomedia!

It allso says, that the OS image version is 2.12 and the firmware is 0x189 - do you have the same?

I will install the keyboard software on a XP computer, and then try to "steal" the missing drivers from that one. I actualy tried that from my main computer, which runs on windows 7. That didn't work - the mouse cursor disapeared, and I had to do a recovery to get it back, but maybe it works different if the drivers come from a computer which runs on XP (Thanks god that we have recovery...)

Re: Beomedia 1 questions (and an interesting finding...)

Hi Martin

I'm not home until tomorrow but I' faily sure that WMP is at verison 10 after all of the automatic updates have completed. This appears to be done in several steps and I have found that it is best just to let the device get on with it and not interfere by checking for updates myself. After all updates are installed I think you should have Software version 3.02 & OS update version 3.05.

I'm afriad I cannot help with the keyboard issue. However, if you have an XP installation on a PC you could always try copying the requested files over one by one and put them in a dedicated directory that you then select when prompted by the device installer.

I have concluded, that these versions of IE are not made to work in XPe.

I allso had problems to update Windows media player, but I just noticed today that it is updated to a newer version - maybe it comes together with some of the other browers like Google Chrome, firefox or Opera, which I could install without any problems? - or could it be B&O that has distributed the update... anyway - it is updated.

Then I tried to install the Setpoint software that followed my logitech DiNovo mini keyboard, but that installation failed, since several files where missing (mouclass.sys, mouhid.sys among others). During the installation it keept asking for the windows XP installation CD's four or five times. I can still use the keyboard, but are not able to costumize the use of the different buttons.

Re: Beomedia 1 questions (and an interesting finding...)

Hello Martin,

What problems have you encountered with XPe? The updates should come automatically and the drivers should all be there too.

It is quite difficult to understand the complete restore process because the files are obfuscated to stop you from tampering with them. I also think that the BeoMedia application is quite tightly coupled to the the hardware: it only works (and not very well by all acounts) with specific PCMCIA Wireless cards and it expects to find the Masterlink PCI card present so you would need to find the driver for that etc etc.

Richard

Re: Beomedia 1 questions (and an interesting finding...)

I'm allso playing around with my Beomedia (thanks god for recovery) but not as hardcore as you guys.

The Windows XP embedded OS has given me some problems with drivers, updates and so on. Do you know if its possible to update the OS to a full version of Windows XP without destroying the functionality of the Beomedia?

Re: Beomedia 1 questions (and an interesting finding...)

Well it is clear that the inability of the IDE/SATA converter to read the S.M.A.R.T data from the SATA drive causes the tempmon.exe process to crash at startup (Runtime Overflow 6) and that the B&O user interface is blocked until the crashed process is acknowledged (<alt tab> <esape> <carrige return> . Furthermore, with the tempmon.exe process hanging, some kind of finalisation process is not completed by the first application update and further OS updates are not started. To get around this I have removed the execution of tempmon.exe at windows startup using regedit and the device has now completed its update process

I am now filling the 1.8TB data partition with the contents of my NAS to see how well the BeoMedia handles large numbers of files. I will be copying 4117 video files that reside in 249 folders (1.34TB), 16114 music files that reside in 1022 folders (149GB), and 5064 pictures that reside in 79 folders (6.84GB). It will be interesting to see how well it can cope with and index all these files...

Re: Beomedia 1 questions (and an interesting finding...)

OK.

If the hidden system folder doesn't point correctly to the last partition them it looks like you doing a recovery, but the recovering isn't completed correctly. So, I curious if you get it working porperly.

Once you've done it, it easy to do it again.

I've got it working just on a ordinary windows pc for instance. But mind the beo manager.
The hidden system folder (a link to the last partition) in the BM-SHARES was there and correctly pointed to the files on the last partition so that was not the poblem.
