Tonight's news actually revealed that the Finnish aviation authorities are planning to sell knowhow on how to keeps the airports open after they have been asked for it by some other countries. Helsinki airport was last closed due to bad weather in 2003, and it lasted for half an hour...

(btw - should've been out to PQ tonight, finished work, birthday tomorrow etc............. expected a really good night out with my pals - taxi cried off because of weather..............sitting at home drinking tinnies as I type this!

Merry Christmas from Amsterdam and a cry for help from The Netherlands. We are snowing in and our country is running out of salt! Help us! The trains are all messed up. The roads slippery. We can't handle this type of weather. Could some scandinavians come over and show our country how you people up north handle this perfectly every year?

My area of the UK has 12 days of salt left..............providing it cut's the number of treated roads to 30%!

Over here, it's too cold for road salt now! Temperature has now stayed below freezing for five weeks in a row and Helsinki area has the most snow for this time of year since 1915.

Wow! It's nice to see this thread, originally posted as a thinly veiled "entrapment" device to try to attract new Wednesdayers©, is actually attracting those in the festive spirit!

I will be celebrating both the Eve (birthday) and the Day itself (still got kids at home) - can I take this opportunity to wish everyone, friends and foe, regulars and foot-fall, the Jolliest of Christmas' and the very Happiest of New Years!

I hope everything over the holidays works out even better than you planned and that Santa still leaves you something you really want (as old as you are)
