That is the counter weight and is important! It won't work without that! You will need to get a donor unit - I think these were all the same in this series of decks and also music centres.

The turntable goes straight into a Beomaster 1100 so that is not the problem. Actually on closer inspection it seems like the arm is missing at the back end of the arm. You see the metal cover on the end of the arm. That's what is missing. Not the whole thing just the cover

What is it being plugged into? If you're going straight into a line-input on an amplifier, then it will sound terrible. You need a phono pre-amp (or RIAA amplifier as they're often called), as all record players have a very low-level output with less bass and treble than there should be. The phono pre-amp corrects for this.

For a cheaper alternative, try Axel at www.schallplattennadeln.de . He can re-tip your stylus - nand can also upgrade it.

Check the tracking force first.
Also make sure your amplifier is suitable for use with the MMC cartridge.

Hi there,

I've just inherited a Beogram 1102 and think that it needs a new stylus. I looked on the Soundsmith website and was a bit shocked that the cheapest one I can get is $150 + delivery. The deck hasn't been used for 20 years and has been in storage.

What is the way to test if it needs a new stylus?

Is there a cheaper alternative?

I have tried to play a record and it jumps a lot and the sound is quite quiet.
