If you want a difference, use a mains filter. I have seen the difference on an LCD screen with and without external mains filter. After that we tried the same mains filter on an Avant. Then we could not notice a difference. So something like a mains filter can make a difference, but not if the mains filtering in your equipment is allready good!

Presumably buyers of this stuff don't think about the 150km of HV cable to their local substation, then the final 1km, then the wires in the house.....

I once went to a dinner where the guest speaker (a former Chief Constable) read from a 1920's police manual about what to do when your police horse started dancing around on the road due to main current leakage! Electricity supply has moved on a little, but not so much that playing with the final 1m of cable could make any difference!

Easy way of DIY:

Plug in mains cord and short circuit the other plug's wires - this will have both effects:

a). the cable will definitely have its "burn-in"

b). YOU look like Lee's picture in his post above

Oh, it's a big business! You can even buy cable burn-in devices, or if you don't want to do that yourself because your kitchen isn't a clean room op or your mains supply hasn't been blessed by the Pope, send your cables away to be "burnt-in".

The sound will be so much better after that. Don't forget the support poles for the cable.

That article about the Magic Audio ICE Power monoblock amps had a lot to say about these things... the ones mentioned were said to cost $850... I think the amp itself listed for $3,000.

I always try and send out brand new 'Fig-8' mains cables when i sell products - and we're running low..

So, i thought i'd have a quick look to see if anyone was selling good quality ones in bulk, online, at sensible prices. Business logic and all that. But... i also thought i'd look at expensive power leads (and remember they are just plain old power leads - from the mains to your piece of B&O) - and i thought £9.95 was expensive when i saw one on eBay.
