The layer protects the surface aigainst fingerprints and so on. But if the layer isn&amp;#39;t there, fingerprints will &amp;quot;burn in&amp;quot; or oxidide the surface, and&amp;nbsp;they&amp;nbsp;can be hard to get&amp;nbsp;off again! Unless you ofcourse polish&amp;nbsp;the&amp;nbsp;surface, but on a pair of Beolab 3000, 4500 or 5000&amp;nbsp;I think, that the &amp;#39;Bang &amp;amp; Olufsen&amp;#39; maybe will be polished of?!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I use something called &amp;#39;Sterling&amp;#39;; a product made for stainless steel,&amp;nbsp;that&amp;nbsp;polishes the surface slightly and also contains oil that protects the surface.&lt;/p&gt;
