For a year ago I switched the BS9000 for the more digital BS5. The sound was quit getting better with more crisp details. The BS9000 was about 6-7 years old. I then had the BL8000 which I recently switched to four BL3s. That change is harder to hear but I think the spread of the diskant is better with the lensedetails on the top. My next move will be to get the BL11 for more bass. That will also be an interesting change. All stuff are connected to my BV10-46 in a surround setup which is fun.

I have two linked products connected in the total setup and they delivered better sound when the switch to BS5 took place.

Speakers are very personal choices - in isolation, I prefer 8000s to BL3s in a bigger room. Add a sub-woofer, and the 3s are probably in front! However it is your ears! Very important to listen first!

Thank you all for taking the time to give me this wonderful advice. I was considering the M-L option actually, I think that is a great idea. @ Doctor, I have thousands of CDs, but I am pretty lazy and not very tech-savvy, which is one reason I did not really consider the BS5, plus I have had my eye on the BS9000 for a while now, but from what I understand the BL3s are better speakers than BL8000s, you seem to have tried out both, was that not your experience? do they complement the BS9000 better than the BL3s? I should check out the BL8000s I suppose. I think I should also take another look at the BS5...

I'd buy the BS9000 for it being the icon that it is. But, spending major bucks on a music system I would seriously consider the BS5 at this point. Maybe not yet for MAC environments, but in windows household certainly.

BL5 are certainly the best, I would give BL3/BL2 or BL11 and BL9 a whirl though.

I find that many of my CDs are not mastered well enough to make full use of the BL5 so my BL3/BL2 combinations was budget friendly and I still enjoy it after the 5 or so years that I have it.

Both the BS 9000 and the BS 3200 are very fine receivers, but different.

The BS 9000 has the S/PDIF option as mentioned above, expressly for the BL 5 speaker. Both are classic, older designs in their own right, one larger, one smaller, both with CD, local Radio, and aux.

When the BS 3200 was designed 29 years ago, downloading digital music files didn't exist like it does today. The 400 CD storage capacity on the BS 3200 HDD is no longer a major attraction as it once was. Connecting your MAC or PC to either the BS 9000 or BS 3200 allows you unlimited music to pull up and play. You also have the other option that is very worth mentioning, and that is M-L.

I rarely play CD's on our BS 3200, and having setup another family's BS 9000 one winter, I know they rarely listen to local radio or CD. The Internet has changed us.

With the M-L, you can add a Beoport to both, connect and stream the unlimited options of N.RADIO, plus N.MUSIC, PC CD, and PHOTOS.

I think your speaker options are just fine. You know best your budget and your audio environment, and you are very wise to include your wife. Otherwise you get to know the Casualty Ward late at night, when it gets loud and you get clocked.

BL9s are the smaller version but don't have the digital connection. I would suggest a visit to your dealer, with your wife, and see which she will give houseroom to. The Beolab 8000 is very beautiful and matches the 9000 nicely.

I would not consider a 3200 - the HDD is very limited. Have you considered the Beosound 5? How have you got your music collection? B&O can convert your full collection of CDs.

Thanks for the responses, I was just checking the exacts specs and in fact called the B&O store to find out more about the Beolab 5s, and I don't think they are the speakers for me, if my neighbours don't kill me, my wife certainly will!! aside from the Beolab 5s, are there any other suggestions for speakers/subwoofers for the BS9000?

BS9000 is a fine set, and an icon. I use it daily with my Beolab 5's. It's the best option for them, IMHO, since you get CD, radio and aux and via CD you'll feed the Beolab 5's with a pure digital signal via SPDIF. This is an option you won't have with a BS3200.

It depemds on your budget and where you live. Beolab 5s produce a huge amount of very accurate bass. If you live in a flat, these are not the speakers for you! If you live in a house, they most definitely are.

Beolab 3s are good small speakers - I used a pair with my computer for some time - but do need a sub-woofer or the bass can sound muddled at higher volumes. I have a Beolab 2 and have not auditioned the Beolab 11 - most reports are pretty favourable.

Beolab 3's and a Beolab 11 have absolutely nothing on the Beolab 5's. Nothing in B&O's lineup comes even close.

If they are within reach, you should get the Beolab 5's. You won't regret it.

All a matter of budget! The best B&O speakers by a country mile are the Beolab 5s. they will connect to the BS9000 digitally and will offer stupendous sound - no sub-woofer required.No-one, even the most ardent audiophile will be able to criticise you!

However we can suggest to almost any budget!

I am new to this site, but I have owned B&O systems for the past 25 years and am pretty brand loyal, I am planning to upgrade and buy a new system and was hoping to get advice/opinions on the best or most appropriate speakers/subwoofer for the Beosound 9000? can anyone help?
