Just had exactly the same problem with my 10 years old BS9000.

I fixed it by:

- downloading the service manual to get the exact test modes

- going into test mode

- selecting "Lightpen Out" (this moves the laser diode collimator/carriage in a more accessible position)

- cleaning the lens with isopropyl alcohol

Works now again as a charm

Note: despite what I read here and there on this forum, no problems whatsoever to run the test mode with a Beo4 (but I had to add SHIFT to the LIST)

The amatuer way is to use a dry cotton bud in the gap between cd mechanism and clamper at the right hand side of the carriage.

or............the professional would lift the clamper, as described in the service manual. Relatively easy but you need to be technically adept.

Proprietary cd cleaning discs are not recommended by B&O and I don't believe they do a proper job anyway. No doubt there will be others who disagree.

I have no idea what a dealer would charge for new cd mechanism but I wouldn't expect much change out of £300.

Re: Beosound 9000 problem - any ideas?

same problem with mine (MKIII). to bad.... because it is not able to spin the disk it looks like the mechanism has a defect.

That is the usual reason for the stationary disc and the PAUSE display.

Either the laser lens is dirty or the CD mechanism will have to be replaced.

If you are very lucky, cleaning the lens with a cotton wool bud will cure it.

However, the mechanism will usually need replacing by your local service people.

Beosound 9000 problem - any ideas?

Hi all, my beloved Mk2 BS9000 is playing up lately. When attempting to play a CD (any CD in any of the 6 CD positions) it will not spin and display PAUSE on the display after 5-10 seconds of trying. It looks like it isn't grasping the CD properly to spin. I've cleaned everything it tells me to in the manual. When i do get it to work it will be fine with all tracks and it will change CDs perfectly until its powered off. Any ideas?
