On my previous thread where I noticed your comments I talked about the mac mini so I started to move my mind into that since its my main problem and also why I tested with the dvd just to see what happened. But as you told me I need two leads.

I plan to use the mac mini as "advanced dvd-player" playing all kinds of material. The tricky thing is that unlike the conventional dvd i tested in this thread is that it only has one audio out, and its either toslink or regular stereoplug and the mac mini senses what is plugged in and switches automatically to the right signal output.

its discussed in this thread:

http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/33975.aspx?PageIndex=1

and has some pretty big wiring diagrams with various converters.

And I am running out of space in my beo aluminum furniture rack, already filled with beosystem1 and a mac mini + I need to figure how to fit a small digital tv box in addition to this :)

The problem is that my mac mini

Re: Audio cd on dvd, no sound

scanorama99:

In the service menu, in monitor info, everything regarding SW = software is above 1.9 but you probably mean something else.

Thats exactly what I mean. You've probably sw 2.23 or 2.24. That software decodes DD and DTS.

Sw version can be seen at SW AC3:

scanorama99:

So what I need is probably something like this:

http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=5980

but I need a splitter like this also:

http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=6008

The first link gives you a converter that downgrades the audio from 5.1 down to 2 channel stereo.

That's probably not what you want.

scanorama99:

the next problem is to find a convenient way to stop the flow on the analog cable when playing surround, otherwise I will have sound coming on both inputs which probably wont be good.

You don't have to stop/silence the stereo analog input if you use the DD or DTS digital signal.

I'm a little wondering what your "problem" is.

Both the digital inputs goes along/corresponds with a analog scart input.

The first with AV and the second goes with VTAPE.

You start with connecting and submitting analog audio (AND/OR video) signal on one of the scarts. But only when the soundmodule detects digital DD or DTS on the corresponding digtal input, the soundmodule switches automatically to the digital input.

Therefore you need both the analog and the digital leads from the DVD.

Re: Audio cd on dvd, no sound

Sorry, I am probably a bit slow :)

I begin to see things a bit more clear now. In the service menu, in monitor info, everything regarding SW = software is above 1.9 but you probably mean something else.

The coaxial cable is for DD and DTS. The bs1 will NOT respond to digital linear PCM audio. Unless you put 1.9 software in your soundmodule, then it will respond to linear PCM. But then again you will have no DTS.....

So, for stereo you need an analog cable.

Coaxial cable. When playing dvd with surround sound I hear sound but when changing to a cd-disc with standard music I hear nothing. I have set the dvd settings to point all audio to the coaxial cable. This also happens when a computer is attached.. no sound other than surround.

Any clue?
