Unfortunately, everyone assumes that an 8 pin socket is power link. In this case no. It took a special cable that terminated in dual 3 pin DIN plugs to go into the speaker two output of the older MCL receivers. That way it could be paired to either an MCL driver, or the more modern ML drivers. Your Beosound 4 is the latter. Use a masterlink plug to connect them and it should work perfectly.

I hate to openly disagree with both Jaff and Joey, but even the BeoLink Wireless kit uses the ML connection with the 3500. The change that was made a couple of years ago enabled the 3500's sensor to be used instead of the Wireless' external eye. Same goes for the BeoLab 2000, BTW.

Powerlink is used in earlier sw versions of WL1, from sw 2.1 masterlink between WL1 and BL3500 and no ext Ir eye

Indeed I just read the manual again and both wired and wireless connection go through the ML, they do not even mention the PL!

I agree with both the above!!

It was for the MCL connection but in the last few months it was changed to PL for Beolink Wireless.

This keeps coming up, and the answer is quite simple. The 8-pin DIN connection on the BL-3500 is in fact NOT a PL connection. It is a connection meant for a purpose-built MCL cable meant for use with older MCL-based systems. To connect the BL-350 to any modern B&O system you MUST use the MasterLink connection.

If I am not mistaken, the PL connection is for using BeoLink Wireless.

The ML will work.

Bonjour,

I tried to connect a Beolab 3500 to a Beosound 4 with a Powerlink cable but it just did not result in anything.

Does it requite a Masterlink connection? and if yes what is the use of the Powerlink plug on the Beolab 3500?
