The amplifier in the 9000, 8500, 9500 etc is fine. It is not as good as the 7000 or 8000 but is actually much the same as the amplifier in the MCL2P. I would say that is is not the most dynamic amp i can think of but is fine as long as you don't expect it to drive some weird speakers! Remember that most of what we listen to will rarely need more than single figures of watts per channel - and usually about 1! The problem with the 9000 is the CD player and the CD clamp.

Hello Beotexas, and welcome.

I read somewhere recently that the amplifier section is not very good in the 9000 (maybe it was the 8500? ...wish I could remember which thread it was). Based on that, I would only use that system with active speakers. If you want passive speakers, go with a Beomaster based system like the 6000/8000, or seperates/stackables.

I passed on the system. The smaller speakers were not S45, but S55 and had foam rot. Rest of system was exc cosmetically. BM6000 had vol issues, BG8000 had needle drop issues. but the main reason I passed is it's not exactly what I want and repairs would double the cost. I probably could have ebayed it in parts and made money, but not feeling like doing that either. I also have an option to buy a Beocenter 9000 (CD/cass all-in-one) and Beolink1000 that is described as working for $500 USD but can't decide either. I know these are high maintenance and many people scrap them due to the CD repair issues. Any thoughts on what it is worth?

I believe they get squished automatically provided they are not too large ... certainly I have not had to adjust my latest which was 8KB and 270x270 or the ones before that at 66KB and 320x480 pixels and 82KB at 464x629

Working fine now in plain txt mode, I assumed iPad needed enhanced mode. I see some s45-2s just got put on ebay US. Something I didn't mention is I bought a beocenter 9000 (the cass/cd all-in-one) on ebay US and then read about the cd issues here and how complicated a machine it is and seller is allowing me to back out if I want, so I'm telling him tomorrow after I see the bm6000 set. The 9000 was $500 USD but included a beolink 1000 too, all working, but I worry about shipping and if I'm ready for the cost/complication of that machine. It looks beautiful tho. I am crazy for a b&o piece! And want to start a collection fast, but I need to go slower I guess. I have been researching for over a month. Ps- do avatars have to be a certain size? I read the FAQs and elsewhere but don't see info on it.

apologies for being cryptic !

if you set it to "plain text" then you can post easily from an iPad or iTouch/iPhone ...

I have also used your tip of touching "HTML" on the message icon line ... which launches a separate Safari window, and provided I keep entering < BR > tags I get a good enough post ... useful for ad hoc posts

But if I plan a "big" Beoworld session from my iPad I switch to "plain text" instead

Anyway, what USD price range would cosmetically pristine BG8000, BM6000, and the early s45 and s75 speakers go for, never refurbed etc, assume they work but will know tomorrow when I check them out. Orig owner, boxes, stands, manuals. I know value equals what a buyer is willing to pay.

Agree - the S45 and S45-2 were much the same in performance - the S45-2 has the flat back and extra metal trim. These two are three way speakers. The later S45 from the later Uniphase models is a two way speaker and replaced the S30 in the range. The nomenclature changed partly due to B&O recalculating power outputs and hence having to increase the power handling of the speakers - or at least the figures given! Nothing wrong with the later S45 - it is probably pretty similar to the S30 but it is nothing like its earlier namesake. The S45-2 is outrageously good for what it appears to be.

To keep it simple w/ S45's...

There were (2) versions of the single fret. (early)

There was (1) version of the double fret. (later)

Just look for the single fret model(s) -that is what you want. The BEST bang for the buck product B&o ever made, IMHO!

Hi, site not iPad friendly? so there were maybe 3 s45 versions? Orig 3 driver ones called s45 then a s45-2' then in the 80s the 2 speaker, split grill s45? Yikes, the more I research the more confusing it gets on the s45. I Had to go to the HTML source editor link to type in on the iPad, I'm away from my home Mac mini. I've always prefered the look of the split fret of the S45's but the S45.2's are a better bet between the 2 models. Personally I've always had a soft spot for the S55's, very underrated & much overlooked by many in the 'S' range.

Hi beotexas! Just to add to the comments above I wouldn't personally make too much of a distinction between S45's and S45-2's: they're both excellent and very similar speakers without the dreaded foam rot issues. As Peter says, probably best to avoid the later rot prone S45's with the split frets.

Just listening to my S45's now: unbelievable quality sound (from 70's Beomaster 2000 and Radio Paradise via a Roku NRadio unit.)
