I don't use my remote for a lot of other things then my stereo and TV, so I'm more satisfied with Beo4 then Beo5. Maybe you'll get the hang of it when you use it regularly, buy I just can't.

Although I do like the looks of the Beo5, the Beo4 is timeless.

I've gone down the same path as TWG - Beo5 and Lintronic 238 - and would echo his sentiments 100%. With these two pieces of kit and their accompanying software (i.e. Beo5 config tool and Lintronic Configurator tool), you can control just about anything that responds to IR directly.

You can do this in almost any way that you like - using macros, combining with the 238's own features - which can send it's own IR commands, or over ML, or control hardware that's hidden.... there are a lot of options and flexibility here. If you are happy spending a bit of time and effort learning how to program both the Beo5 and 238 then there are a lot of benefits to choosing this path.

As for the Beo5 itself, it took me a week or so to get used to the feel of it, but like TWG says, I now prefer it over the Beo4, especially of an evening in a dark TV room. Hope that helps,

If you have the config tool just check A.AUX under Modules when chossing BS9000, or create a new button that sends AUX_A in audio mode.

I've bought a Beo 5 + the Lintronic TT238 to convert all my IR remotes into xml files for the Beo 5.

I don't use any other remote including Beo 4 any more. I'm using my Beo 5 to control my B&O TV and Audio stuff, my Sony Bluray, my Yamaha AV-Controller, my Technisat DVB-T Tuner, my Playstation 3 (with the RE-BL adapter), my lights (with JBmedia lightmanager Pro B&O), my Archos 605 Multimediaplayer/-recorder and in a few days my LED deko lights, too.

It IS some work to configure the Beo 5 the way you want, but when it's running, you'll love it. I prefer the Beo 5 because of the backlit keys and display. Operating it in the evening is very comfortable!

I NEVER want to go back! :-)

Question: I have a BeoCenter 9000 (tape deck and CD player). I've been thinking of buying a new remote to replace my Beolink 1000 and I have it in my head that I should get a Beo5. I like the idea of being able to control everything, even my non B&O products. The issue is this, will I ever really use this $600 remote to its fullest potential without naving a whole house full of B&O. Will the Beo5 even work with my 1986 BeoCenter? Does it make more sense to buy the more cost effecient Beo4? I do have the config software and have been studying up on the process so I know the Beo5 will be more work to set up, but I don't know...I just kinda want it. Thoughts?
