Happy Anniversary Cleve :)

Hope your search for the MC120.2s goes well. I remember that you were rather taken with mine when you visited, and I'm sure if you get some you won't be disappointed. You'll have to try and find a nice La Pavoni Europiccola to go in your kitchen too ;)

John

Thanks John,

Still looking for the 120s. As for the 'La Pavoni', I'm making do with the Richard Sapper designed stove-top espresso maker at the moment!

I know the feelings that you have Cleve. My first BM1200 was bought in the 70's and was a rather extravagant purchase at the time (but never regretted.) My B&O interest was necessarily dormant for many years after, but was revived with the demonstration of an Avant about 5 years ago. Then Beoworld.......... the site that reinforces your B&O desires to the extent that you finish up acquiring things that you can't have in use or on show at the same time. Beoworld for the most part somehow accommodates the deepest technical issues at one extreme, and the international lunacy of Wednesday evenings at the other. Long may it (and its members) survive.

I’ve just realised that yesterday was the second anniversary of my joining Beoworld, and when you get to my age, any anniversary is worthy of celebration.

In those two years I’ve gone from contented owner of a Beosystem 2500, a Beosystem 10 and an MX 1500, all of which I’d owned from new in the early 90s, to a ravening collector/addict – and this is mostly the fault of this site and ‘Beocentral’

I have acquired, in no particular order, Beograms 1700, 4004 and 8002, Beomasters 2400, 4400 and 8000, Beocenters 4000 (70s model) and 9500, 2 Beocords 5000 (70s model) and a Beocord 9000, Beovoxes S40, S45.2 and CX100, a CDX, and a pair of Form 1s, – oh, and a Beovision LX5500! And I have displayed, for me, unusual patience - It took me 18 months to find a set of stands for my S45.2s

This period of almost indiscriminate buying has not been without its downside. I’m about two thousand pounds poorer, my partner believes I am ill, and I may have done irreparable damage to my back in moving the Beomaster 8000. I can’t have all this stuff in use at the same time, so my listening is managed rather like a museum – I have 3 month exhibitions and when not in use, kit gets relegated to storage – in my case under the bed.

I’ve gone from having no vinyl at all to a collection of 120 or so records. My love of Rosewood is not shared by my partner – in fact she hates it. I spend hours on Beoworld and eBay – sites she refers to as my pornography – and a visit to see her son ends up with him and me visiting a Beoworld member (John Barker) to listen to his Pentas.

And it hasn’t finished, this collecting lark. I regret not buying Peter’s MS150s to go with the Beolab 8000, even though I know they are monsters, and would be wholly unsuited to my listening room where they would take up 30% of the available floor space. There’s a pair on eBay now which I’m tempted by even though I know the reaction a purchase will bring from SWMBO.

So now, I am still on the lookout for a pair of MC120.2s/S120s in Rosewood. Now there’s a nice looking pair for sale in Germany, so I wonder if she would like a trip to the Rhineland......
