But you are correct, the link design mandates that all master units must be "online" at all times to respond to commands to use their sources

And when the BV8 it sourcing a link room its own screen does not come on ...

I have never found one.

The manual's pictures don't show one.

And the wording of the instructions implies there is not one:

"When connections are complete and cables have been secured as described on the previous page, switch on the mains. A tiny, red light appears. The system is in standby mode and ready to be used."
"Your television was designed to be left on in standby mode when not in use."
"The television can only be switched off completely, if you disconnect it from the mains."

Does the BeoVision 8 have a master switch? To turn it completely on/off (not with remote)???
