I'd agree with Mika here on the price. You can find them cheaper but these seem in pretty good order & the fact that they come with stands is a big bonus. Wall mounting brackets were also made for these & they appear on ebay quite regularly. These brackets came in 2 sizes, the samaller ones for the RL45/45.2/60/60.2/2000/6000's & the larger ones for the RL140/7000's. There are also ceiling mouting poles which are much harder to come by. I wouldn't bother looking at the RL35/1000's as they aren't really in the same league as the RL45.2/60.2/2000/6000's although they do perform remarkably well given their very basic design.

I agree with Chris Take a look at this thread to get an idea of the construction. The fret (including the fabric) is an integral part of the speaker body, and you have to practically dismantle the whole speaker and remove the drivers from behind until you can have a look.

But, no need to do all that in this case as the RL60.2 won't have foam rot, while you can be sure that RL60 does!

I liked my RL60.2's when I first got them, and after I recapped the crossovers, I love them. But as said it is subjective. They won't shake your house but will do well - I have mine connected to a Beocenter 8000, which is believe to have a very similar amp section as your Passive.

I don't follow the US market so can't comment much on that, but considering that those RL60.2's look quite nice (with intact straps, even) and come with the stands, I'd say $200-250 would still be a good price. Of course those stands will only be useful to you if you can place the speakers on the floor.

1. Are these speakers not prone to any foam rot. Why is the grill/fret glued?

2. Do they come manufactured with glued grills?

1. These have rubber surrounds so won't suffer with foam rot - unlike the earlier RL60's which have all kinds of foam rot issues & to be avoided if you want some easy to fix speakers. The RL60.2's are very good speakers & would be ideal for your application, but this is just my personal opinion. Speakers are a very subjective & personal matter & what sounds good to one person may sound terrible to someone else.

2. The frets are NOT glued on. There are simply a lot of screws to undo to get the frets off. Some of these screws are quite discreet so if you don't know where they are you will struggle to get them apart.

One beolink passive without the ML connector I use, is combined with a beolink active (which has powerlink of course) to drive a pair of IWS2000's in the Bathroom.

Just an idea?

They are fine but they need on be on some sort of stand or they sound muddy. They do look modern though. S45-2s are another recommendation - a bit like a VW Golf - they do almost everything anyone could want!

Those 2000's look beautiful! I've never heard that model (I have a pair of RL60.2's) but I would expect them to be clearly better than either of the CX models without a sub. Descending from 45.2, it should have no foam rot problems either, can anyone confirm?

The RL35 is from the smallest model family and lacks many of the fine points of the 'real' RLs (see Beocentral). Might sound reasonable though, unfortunately I haven't heard them either.

The other speaker I am considering are RL 2000 - These look good on ebay listing from he photos at least and RL 35

What do you guys think?

CX100 is better of course, but don't expect much bass from them either (look at the size!). They are fine as link speakers and easy to place anywhere, but I wouldn't like to use them in my main system. Adding a Cona subwoofer will help a lot with the bass though.

You can be pretty much sure that the foam surrounds of the drivers are shot - or will soon be - unless either the surrounds or the entire drivers have been replaced at some point. Easy problem though as all you need is money (new drivers are still available), but calculate that into how much you are going to pay...

These were the last passive speakers from B&O (if you don't count Beovox 1), so except for these, you'll be going more or less vintage, and the possibilities are endless. You'll need to think about what kind of placement and/or size you are looking for.

How about CX50 or CX100 - which one are better

And also Is there a quick way to confirm the driver's on these are still fine - will be buying from ebay so need some advise on what things to be checked before getting them.

If there are better passive speakers in terms of quality and abng for the bukc please advise. I kinds of felt CX50/100 would be a good choice from the forum discussions on this subject.

I intend to use the passive amplifier with a beosound 4000 I guess it does matter with a beovox speaker what you use to provide the input through the passive amplifier

Please suggest any old B&O passive speakers to go with my recently acquired beolink passive type 1658. It has max 30W output per channel, hence needs suggestion on an appropriate passive speaker. I don't know much about The passive speakers From reading the forum I gather that the power link sockets on the beolink. Passive are inputs - NOT Ouputs to connect any active speakers. Meaning I cannot connect active speakers to this amplifier It would have been nice to use the ML or PL both ways as input and output. If interested in buying this from me let me know with your offer price. Seems like another Impulsive buy without thinking through Thanks
