Many thanks for your input. I tried Carolpa's proposed setup to start with since the Beolinke Active solution requires a bit more of cabling work from my side. Everything works great. Excellent! Will try the BeoLink Active solution at a later stage when the BL3 goes up on the wall and I will have to do something about the cable mess anyway.

if there are speakers connected to the BS9000 it should not be in option 0. I would say BS9000 option 1; the BV5 in option 1 and the BS5 not set as audiomaster.

this should do the trick.

When CD is started the BS is starting to play and music is played to the BL3. To listen to the speakers on the BV5 use AV-CD.

To start the BS5 use N.Music or N.Radio (for the Bl3) and AV-N.Music or AV-N.Radio to listen to the speakers of the BV5.

This is exactly what I do (although I have a BV8 instead of BV5). It works just like Stefan says.

I think the best solution will be to take the Beolink active with IR eye for the "dining zone" and connect the BL3s to the Powerlink outs of the BL active. Set BS9000 to audiomaster, A,OPT 0 (BS5 to NO AUDIOMASTER), BV5 to videomaster in V.OPT 2, and BL active to L.OPT 4. This lets you control the whole setup as before - all audio- and video sources are controlled via the BV5. Additionally you can control all your audio/video sources for the dining zone in LINK mode without affecting the main setup. You will still be able to control your setup from other link setups.

Old thread but does someone have any input how to solve a setup with a BV5 as videomaster with Beolabs connected to it, a BS5 and and a BS9000 - all situated in one large room? Up until now I have had no other speakers than the ones connected to the BV5 and all has worked fine (BS5 not set as audiomasterm, BS9000 option 0). Recently I have however acquired a pair of BL3:s to have in the dining part of the room. These speakers are connected to the BS9000. Problem is that even if it is a large room the IR receiver of the BV5/BS9000 sometimes picks up a signal intended for the other part resulting in both the BV5 speakers and the BS9000 starts playing.

Is there a way to get the BS9000 to only react to link commands and still be able to access CD:s and radio from other rooms? I guess I should be able to have the BS9000 in option 0 but would prefer if I could use the remote rather than having to press the BS9000 every time I should change something.

If it would improve the situation I could also have the BL3:s connected to the powerlink sockets of the BM5 rather than the BS9000. Also have one Beolink Active currently not in use which I could use if that would solve the situation.

I`m afraid, that Stan is right here. Really strange.....You have to buy a 12k BV7 - assumed you have a 4k BS9000 - to make use of your 5k BS5 volume wheel? I can`t believe it! And I can`t see a reason, why this works with a Beovision, but not in an audio setup...!! Did anyone try to set BS9000 to A.OPT2? BS5 in "No audiomaster" mode and Beolabs connected to BS9000?

Ok, so I would need a videosmaster as well, to get the link system the way I want it - maybe I'll do this step by step

You can always change the volume with the beo remote. The volume control I'm complaining about not being able to use is the wheel integrated into the BS5.

I also believe that stephan has different behavior because of the BV in the setup.

A.TAPE2 is the same as N.MUSIC - PHONO is N.RADIO.

In my setup I have a BS9000 - audiomaster in A.OPT 0, a BV7-40 MKIII - videomaster in V.OPT2 and BS as no audiomaster with Beolabs connected to BV7. I can control volume via BS5 wheel. I can start up the whole system by pressing GO on BS5, or turning the wheel on BS5. Now sources appear on the display and I can start up for example N.MUSIC by pressing GO. Standby ans system standby is also possible.

If you are talking about listening to CD (BS9000) in the mainroom and at the same time listening to BS5 in a linkroom, that`s NOT possible. Masterlink is meant to distribute only one audio (stereo). If you have a Beovision, you can listen to BS5 in the mainroom via BV in PC mode and listen to BS9000 in linkrooms at the same time.

If you want access your BM5 music from a linkroom when you are listening to CD, just install Beoplayer on your PC or Mac. I have Beoplayer installed on my Macbook and my Mac mini - works great. See also my posts in the BS5 forum. Hope this helps.

Somehow the beolink system could be improved; what if the bs9000 and the bs5 are located in different rooms - how can I manage to change the volume? And I always thought that I can listen to track "a" on the bs9000 (ie living room) and track "b" on the bs5 (ie kitchen)...

Actually, I have tried to "slave" my BS9000 to the BS5, and it doesn't like it (system seemed to lockup and be non-responsive). Maybe a software update would do the trick - not worth the trouble if you ask me - this is a minor irritation. What was tried before was to put the BS5 into link room mode, but disconnect the speakers from the BS9000. This allows the BS5 to turn on the system and use it's volume control, the BS9000 sources to be distributed via masterlink, but not the BS5 (the system also reportedly turned off after ~30 minutes or so).

I didn't try this myself, but somebody else on the forum did. My understanding is that when the BS9000 is in slave mode you cannot listen to it's sources (CD, Radio, AUX) in link rooms.

Just out of curiosity, did you try making the BS9000 the slave? Put it into option 0 and have the BS5 in Option 2?

We keep having discussions about it. general rule is, no 2 audio master on the same network. yet there were some customers like myself that have BC2 and BS9000 and so they allowed the BS9000 to be put into the slave mode in late software update. I know that at some point the verison was posted here, and I checked and I was below. I am running AUX out into BC2 AUX in and disabled the remote on my BS9000 as a workaround but I don't see the AUX in on the Beomaster.

You still select songs, albums, artists using the BS5. Only On/Off and volume are controlled via the BS9000. Actually, you can turn the BS5 on/off using the BS5 on/off button, but you cannot hear what it is playing until you turn on the BS9000 (as the speakers are connected to the BS9000).

I'm not sure about using an beo4 with N.music. All of my Beo4s show N.music.

Thanks for your detailed answer; today I've got a BS9000 MK III - but my Beo4 is that old I can not choose n.music - but already saw it somehow in the display of the BS9000 - at the moment i can not reproduce it...

Of course I would like to set up a beolink system in future - and I'm very astonished that the controller of the BS5 would not work as "slave"; is it possible to choose the tracks/albums? - or do I have to use the beo4?

And do I have to buy a newer beo4 to use the BS 5/n.music?
