This, in my opinion, sounds much better than running both channels through the same cona, as both channels will kind of fight over the single driver. Great speakers in an appropriate setup.

Getting back to the original concern, I think active is the way to go here.

Re: Beovox cona

Will some thing like this would be good.

The Cona is a passive sub. To be honest I can't see it working with your current setup. It was designed to boost the bass from smaller CX passive speakers, in a setup where the Beomaster has an internal amp to power it. The Cona's crossover then filters the higer frequencies out for the CXs, but it can be quite directional. I actually like the Cona a lot (it looks great too - there's one in MoMA) and use mine with a Beomaster 8000 and some Beovox Pentas, and the bass boost can be welcome in my large living space.

For you though, I'd get the Beolab 2 as it hook up perfectly to your current system :)

Isn't this just the sort of situation that the new Beolab 11 is designed for? The Beolab 2 is probably overkill paired with a couple of Lab 4000's, esecially as Home Cinema hasn't been mentioned.

What else would I need to have this work with my setup with a pair of beolab 4000.
Is it worth getting this used or should I consider a beolab 2 instead.
Do I need a ML MCL convertor?
Thanks
