If you are to install it, please check out a an A4 with and one without it - there are a lot more speakers in the B&O setup, and the fittings (inside of mirror fastening point, dashboard (3 units I belive) etc...) are very different. You may need some new (expensive) interior panels, too. The doors should be fairly easy, but ripping out the dash isn't...

So I agree with your conclusion - go for a used A4 with the system pre-installed

Even if it were... imagine the install procedure.

Though if you're good with that sort of stuff... go for it.

I have seen people offering the B&O systems for Audi on ebay, my guess is to keep away. It's probably fake or just the aluminum cover for the standard speakers. Which doesn't really bring you much.

My guess is they are taken from crashed cars.

I would suggest if you want the B&O system to wait until you can get a used A4 with it.

Options always devalue the fastest in a car, so there is a good chance to find one somewhere with it for an ok price.

A4's with the Bang & Olufsen sound system have a different wiring loom as well, which makes it hard to install the system afterwards...

I asked , at the demo we had at the BeoWorld Struer visit (2007?), if it's possible to install the B&O afterwards if there is no B&O from start. The answer was no. It must be done when the car is made. I think he said the system needs an advanced calibration to sound good.

That is my understanding too. Even if there was some way to shoe-horn the B&O in I can't see you getting the full benefit. Unless the second-hand one comes from a written off car it is hard to see why anyone would be selling one as it would damage the interior of the car to remove it.

Can anyone tell me from what year it is possible to put a Bang & Olufsen stereo upgrade in an Audi A4? I'm looking at purchasing a used one and I cant decipher how much and when the upgrades can occur? Is it from 07 / 57 / 08 plates onwards? Does anyone know about costs to do this as well? Thanks!!
