That was pretty useful.

The need seems to depend on the speakers as well. On my usual system (BS6500 with passive Pentas) I never use loudness, as the Pentas sound quite full to me even at very low volumes ("20" or so). Which is why I don't subscribe to the theory that you need a huge amp to drive them!

Re: How to turn off LOUDN on Beomaster 5500?

That is why the 4401 is so good - a nice Linear button which bypasses all the filters!

For a nicely designed loudness control, go and have a look at the service manual of the Beolab 5000 amplifier. It has graphs showing how the boost decreases with increasing volume.

Re: How to turn off LOUDN on Beomaster 5500?

As a re-seller of B&O audio systems, quite a number pass through my hands.

The sound is just so much better to me.

I prefer the loudness on my BM3000-2 as compared to my BM4500 (I only have active speakers attached, not much of a diference on or off). The manual for the 3000 says it cuts off at volume level 4. Does it actually taper off?

Me with some of the vintage kit. It works for the purpose it was designed to, which is to compensate for the properties of the ear when you can't or don't want to use much volume. With most of the receivers/amps I'd like it to "back off" a bit faster when adding volume, though.

Agree- the function is very useful, when listening quiet in the evening, for example (if you've got a flat), but would be good to have the adjustments of how Loudness goes off with raising volume.

Re: How to turn off LOUDN on Beomaster 5500?

evman140:

The LOUDNESS can be turned off with Beo4:

1) Press LIST until A.SETUP appears, and press Go;

2) Press LIST until LOUDNSS appears, and press GO to switch it on or off;

3) Press LIST until S.STORE appears, and press GO to store the chosen sound adjustments (the volume level is also saved)

The sound with Loudness off is simply fantastic in comparison- it seems, the LOUDNESS is made via very simple sound processor, that makes the sound a bit synthetic- adhusting BASS and TREBLE is quite fine about the sound influence.

Thanks a lot to everyone!

Re: How to turn off LOUDN on Beomaster 5500?

Have found all instructions for all units- hang on, Beomaster- it's BeoBuster coming!

Re: How to turn off LOUDN on Beomaster 5500?

tournedos:

I'm not with my BM5500 now so can't verify, but it should be possible with Beo4...

LIST to LOUDNSS, then each press of GO should toggle loudness on/off

LIST to S.STORE, press GO and the current settings (including tone/volume/loudness) should be stored in memory

Finally, switch the Beomaster off & on to see that the setting really stays off before returning the remote

The backup battery is buried inside the metal shields on the CPU module, which in turn is buried rather deep behind the front panel in the Beomaster, and as a final nuisance the battery is soldered in.
