Hi Michael:

It was but the power supply I bought from Maplin's did the trick. I agree it is a really good product and when I got it (for free) I thought it would be a must-have item. To a certain extent it is. However, it is not as life changing as I thought it would be. Perhaps I don't get as excited over developments in technology anymore! Maybe when I try to view my cable source from outside the house I will be more impressed!

I was waiting for ages for the Slingbox to come to Australia and I bought the sling box and also the sling catcher and i had no problems in setting them up.

I don't use it anymore and put it back in the box because it didn't meet my particular needs even though it's a great product.

I was able to sling the connection over a network created with 2 apple airport expresses.

Is your question about the power supply? Do you want me to check mine for you/

Seems to fit all requirements. If you share it with other devices, it will need some discipline to not plug it in when adjusted to wrong voltage or polarity, though!

The reason for getting a universal adaptor is that considering all of the electronic "junk" I have amassed over the past 6 or seven years this will come in handy.

Do you have a particular power supply in mind already? If it is stabilized/regulated, it should work just fine as you are right in your last sentence. An unstabilized, too "heavy" power supply might be a problem as they will output a higher voltage with a smaller load.

If you want to be sure, you can measure the output of the power supply with nothing connected to it. It should be at 6V dead center, not eight or nine or something...

Have you simply tried to get an original replacement power supply? Through a quick googling US versions seem very cheap even in the official Slingbox store, there must be UK versions available as well somewhere.

Hi everyone:

I have acquired a Slingbox off of a friend who could not get it to work. After a little research I have discovered that the power supply that is in the box is not the original. Having looked at different forums it would appear that the Slingbox is quite fussy and this is why it is not booting into the network.

Right my question is this, and I am ashamed to ask it as I should know the answer:

According to Slingbox forums the power supply needs to be able to output 6v and 2 amps. Having looked at Amazon and Maplin there does not seem to be anything of that exact specification. Thus if I got something that matched the volts but was overpowered on the amps would it blow it or me up? Experience suggests no as the device will only draw the amps it requires but I want to be sure before wasting any money.
