Renovated by Dillen.

I'm listning to S80.2 on a daily basis connected to my Beomaster 6500. Even now the radio is on and they play wonderfull in the background.

They are well balanced but bass could be more present. Basically I use flat level but with bass on 1 it evens out a bit but sometimes its to much.

The Beovox S120 are really big sounding compared to S80.2. They are used with matching white BM6000 also renovated by Dillen. I have tried the combination of both pairs on the BM6000 and it sounds very big, balanced and puts the thought of the BM8000 in jeopardy.

The S/M120 is underrated but very great sounding. It was by chance I got mine. Orginial white to match the BM6000. S80.2 came first and S120 next when they S80.2 were at Dillen. He got them for me. I could not pass it up. Both pairs sounds great and I'm very happy with them.

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

yes the MC120's are very good, if you can find a nice pair that is !

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the S120/MC120.2's yet. The Beolab 5000 is an excellent amplifier and more than capable of driving them. I would not recommend them together though as the Beovox 5000 or 3000 are a better match.

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

I have listen to S80.2 for a year, and see that S80.2 can connect to Beolab5000, but the sound is not good enough. The best solution for S80.2 is Beomaster 6000, and Beocenter 7000, 7700.

A friend has a pair set up at home and reckons they are one of the best loudspeakers he has heard - and he is busy repairing some beolab 5s at present...

They will need the capacitors in the cross over changing or they will sound dull and you must use the stands or they sound bass heavy and muddy.

I confess to not being such a fan of RL speakers , but that does not mean I am right!

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

Hi Peter in responce to your advice would the rl 140/7000 be good as well?

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

The ones to choose if you want RL speakers are either the RL60.2 or the RL6000. Avoid the original RL60 as the ABR rots and will need fixing. I would suggest replacing the capacitors in these aspeakers anyway as they often sound a little dull with age. I would also strongly recommend either wall mounting or stand mounting these speakers.

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

If you check the product section of this site you'll see the power ratings for all Beovox passive speakers. The Lab 5000 is rated at 60w, so something like the RL60 would seem a sensible bet - but how big is your room and what do you want to get out of the amp and speaker combo? If it's just quiet listening then maybe one of the smaller RLs would be ok so long as you don't crank the volume up. Conversely, if you want to annoy the neighbours then RL140s are probably well within the capability of this amp to power them (but they are enormous).

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

Thanks for your advice on choosing speakers for my Beolab 5000, untill i can find the proper speakers for the system can you tell me which size red line speaker is most appropriate for the power output of the amp.

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

Yes, as John says, all B&O passive speakers will work with the Beolab 5000. However remember that B&O have a tendency to design systems and many of us have discovered through experimenting that they knew what they were doing! Often the best sounding speakers are those made for the system. The Beomaster 1200 sounds wonderful with Beovox 1200 speakers - neither are actually that spectacular when used with other systems.

The Beolab 5000 is quite a lively amplifier - the 5000 speakers and 2500 cubes suit down to the ground! However do experiment yourself as speakers are often a very individual taste.

Re: S80-2 QUESTION

Yes - every single B&O passive will work with this amp.

S80-2 QUESTION

The s80-2 speakers are 8 ohms will they work well with my beolab 5000 amp?
