Sorry to hear about the damage fonz.

These lids aren't available any more and becoming nearly impossible to find now. There is a "new old stock" one which keeps appearing on ebay UK which I would urge you to buy (it won't be cheap though) while it is still available and worry about the insurance claim later.

My sincere thanks to the three of you who replied. You saved me from destroying a beautiful piece of equipment. As it is though, I just took delivery on the system and the turntable was damaged in shipment. The lid is broken with a huge chuck taken out. I'm just sick about it but it was insured. I have to see what the seller has to say.

Soundproof is right!

There's no way you should risk doing this. Other than the possible damage he's already mentioned, you can add the probability that the platter becoming detached will also wreck the tonearm, tracking arm and whatever cartridge you have fitted.

Ahhh sorry got it the wrong way round! Don't know why I thought it was that way round, but as Soundproof says, storing a deck sideways would still damage it...

You'll get an unbalanced turntable, the platter will be falling off, the drive will probably end up out of "whack" and who knows what will happen to the calibration of the motor ...

Alex thinks you wanted to play records in that position, but your post makes clear that's not your intention. But storing the record player vertically will do weird things to the balancing and suspension. Trust me.

No you can't do this. The record would fall off, among other issues such as tonearm weight changing with the angle of the player. Heck the whole platter itself could fall off! No go I'm afraid Record decks are just waaay too fragile. Sorry!

Beogram 4500 turntable- verticle?

I just purchased a near mint Beosystem 4500. I'd like to mount the Beogram vertically with folding shelf brackets. That way all four units would be mounted on the wall the same. When I want to use the turntable it's a simple task to raise the turntable to the correct horizontal position and play some old vinyl 33's. When finished, simply fold the table back down to it's verticle position on the wall. My question: Will storing the turntable in a verticle position hurt it at all? I'm not talking using it that way, just storing it vertically when it's not in use. Thanks to all who reply.I bought my first B&O 1900 in 1979 but I'm still a novice and would really appreciate your expert advise.
